215/35/18 vs 220/40/18 - Click HERE for Original Thread

azn_fire_fly
my car came with 215/35/18 and i was wondering how much of a diference it would be to run with 220/40/18 tires??
I know it may just affect the speedo a little bit, but my main concern is will it rub on my 5th gen prelude??

gab
who makes a 220/40/18? never heard of that size.

Godzilla
indeed, i've never heard of a tire with a width not ending in 5.

anschutz_93
there are some larger truck tires that if you do a conversion from inches (that the tire size is listed as) to mm you get a size that does not end in 5

as for your question azn_fire_fly the new tire size would be 1cm wider (this is assuming you ment 225) and probably around an inch taller (this is just a guess because i dont want to do the math right now; multiply 215mmX0.35 then 225mmX0.40 the differnce will be approximately your difference in height)
as for it rubbing i dont know mainly because i know nothing about preludes, but look for how much clearance you have on your suspension now to get an idea of how close the tire will be. that being said i would suggest going to a 40 series tire if you can because it protect the rim and tire against damage.

gab
mabey a 215/40/18 might be available??? i know i have seen a 205/40/18 for sure. i guess it depends if/how much of a drop you have to deal with.

What size is the stock Prelude tires? I can tell you from there...

sorry i meant 225/40/18. i did that calculator from the site and it says 4% off.

Blackout-spec
if you rub, just roll the fenders. remember from 215-225, its not a big difference.

azn_fire_fly

azn_fire_fly
i think i will just go back to my 215/35/18, since my car is lowered

Blackout-spec
i went from 215/45ZR17
to 225/40ZR18 and my car is lowered 1.5".
no rubbing issues.
offset is 45 on both rims.

Its best to stay with the original outside diameter of the original stock tires.

Example;

If it came with a 55 series on a 16 inch rim, then a 50 series should be used on a 17 and a 45 series on a 18 inch rim.
