Its so retarded how you have to pay for a diagnostic on your car when you know whats wrong.
My AC hasnt worked for the most of the summer and i have an extended warranty on my car. I figure since i have a warranty, why not get it fixed! I took it in and they want to charge me 110$/hr to diagnose the problem then depending on if its the compressor or just needs the refrigerant flushed then i have to pay for the labor.
Extended warranties are useless! You pay an extra 1700$ for 3 more yrs of warranty, then you pay for them to tell you whats wrong with your car and if they will even cover the problem!!! ERRRRRR
End rant. |

| its worth it when you blow your engine up. they rebuild it for free. |
|
|

not if you have a CAI or header, maby even a catback exhaust.
they will look for any reason to blame your mods for the engine failure. |
|

| Blackout-spec |
so i just get a call back. 250$ to recharge the AC with new refrigerant. I told them to call me before they do it if that IS the case, and to my surprise, its already done w/o my approval.
can i call Nissan Canada and bitch? i could have done this my self...
*edit, called Nissan Canada, they told me to deal w/ the manager at west end nissan. The dealerships dont care about their customers, thats why their attitude is always so poor.. |
|
|
| Prudz_lude |
| go to the dealership and actually cause a shit storm. i worked at 3 and if you make a big enough deal out of it you should be able to get a discount which is at least good enough. get it down to 175 or at least try |
|
|
| Blackout-spec |
the service advisor's excuse was that they had to run a die through it to find any leaks. i know theres no fucking leaks!!! i told him its the thermostat, or compressor. Apparently when they ran the die through it they replaced the refrigerant.
most expensive fluid change ever!
should i be really pissed, or very polite with the manager? |
|
|
| Prudz_lude |
| be polite and understanding for a while and listen to what they have to say to you and then bring in your arguement. If they shut you down start explaining what they did wrong. Of course they will deny it so this is when you start using a stronger tone of voice and show you are upset. This is where they will start doing the same and it will become a match of who is going to make their point and who is going to lose. trust me, just keep getting pissed off and let every other customer around you know it. If they see your being treated unfairly they will probably assume they will get the same treatment down the road. Don't make it personal in anyway but show that you want it resolved for their mistake. they won't let you off the bill completely so bargin for a deal. |

extended warranties are a mathematical formula to extract the most amount out of customers, i do think they can be good if you blow your motor or trans, however i would never personally buy it.
like prudz_lude says i agree, but if you can cause a shit storm while still being professional you will have a better chance. hold back the f-bombs if you can, and always go straight to the manager because if not you will have to tell your tale two time.
i get to take my car to mills nissan on thursday, i hope they dont try the reach around, but i will be ready if they do. this will be the first time i have ever had a valid car warranty, so it should be interesting. |
|

| Blackout-spec |
i already had an argument with the adviser on the phone.
i was semi calm, till he told me i have a 250$ bill for a refrigerant flush.
i cant believe these guys... |
|
|
| Prudz_lude |
| talk to the service manager in person and it should be a better experience. the problem you just caused for yourself is the advisors there are now going to be talking about you if you acted like an ass to them. i know them all and they are understanding but wont tolerate being berated by customers. Be civil about the mistake and they will be civil to you. |

| they will probably just take a look at me, and think... 20yr old punk in expensive clothes w/ a newer car and blow me off. |

Sorry to hear about your luck.
In the sping when the tranny went on my Benz, I took it over to the dealership and had nothing but top notch service! It cost a little over $5,000 to replace and it was done in a few days. I was supposed to pay a $100 deductible for the warranty, but they told me not to worry about it :)
They also cleaned my car inside and out!

Yea no doubt. I wouldn't settle for anything less than free. You didn't want it charged, your not going to pay for it being charged.
To piss them off do like arabian_ryda said and drain it. |

well i just got back and this is how it went:
i told them i was not paying for the refrigerant and i never authorized them to put it in. I was told when i dropped it off that i would have to pay for the labor if in fact the refrigerant did need to be topped up. so thats what i paid for, the labor.
It took only 2 min before the manager came out because he saw the other customers observing my discussion with the service lady.
So all i paid for is160$ in labor to check for leaks i knew never existed. Apparently i had .2L of refrigerant in the condenser... the adviser told me over time it somehow "evaporates". I clearly told him he was full of shit, because my car is only 3 yrs old and there is no way it just evaporated when its in a closed system. If that was the case, how is my car even running... my rad should be almost empty too then.
The adviser told me "well we had to fill it up to check for leaks" i then told him, well take the refrigerant back out, i dont want it as i will not use my AC when its already -30 outside.. He then had this smug look on his face and took the invoice to the manager.
I still got ripped off but at least they acknowledged the fact that i did not tell him to put the refrigerant in.
Ah well, lesson learned. Fix everything yourself. |

| I literally laughed at my salesman when I bought my car when he said Extended warranty. It all depends on the vehicle though if I bought anything domestic I would think about it. My dad just got rid of his 2003 buick Rendevous and supposidly had over $4000 in warranty work done in 3 years of driving it. |

that blows man
i know with acura - not sure with extended warranty but even with the power train warranty there is no $100 dollar deductable - they just replace it.
i think that deductable is just with extended warranties |

with your extended warrenty you shouldn't have paid for anything. They're just trying to rip you off.
Go elsewhere man |

Thats what I used to think....until I had to replace the tranny in my Benz. Extended warranty cost me about $1,700...new tranny was over $5,000.
Sure glad I had it!

Sometimes yes. Other times there is some sort of deductible they like to charge as the warranty is outsourced to a third party. This would be if it is past the original OEM warranty. The OEM warranty there is not cost to replace, sometimes just a fight with the dealer. Most people do not read the fine print and just sign the papers.
My best OEM warranty service was with West End Mitsu. In late 2003 My mom had purchased a 2004 Lancer Rallyart. In 2005 I took it in for servicing as they were on one of the many golf vacations in the states they go on every year.
During the routing tune up, maintenece and switching tires, which was supposed to take almost a day, I recieved a call way ahead of schedule saying the car was ready. When I went in to pay for it, they told me all the stuff they did and they told me that the passanger rear wheel hub was bad and they replaced it under warranty while the car was in the shop.
I was very pleased with them as they could have just wasted my time with a phone call advising me of the situation, and seeing if I wanted to replace it now or later. They just did it and told me it was covered under warranty!
Anyways back on topic
Jamie,
You're comparing a Mercedes dealer to a Nissan Dealer. The higher end dealers will bend over backwards for their customers.
I still shudder when I think of West End Nissan. I avoid them like the plague.
I never purchase an extended warranty on anything.

What Nissan dealership was this?
If this was West End they are the biggest bunch of fucktards EVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!
I will only go to Mills or Ericksen.
At West End, the cunt that works the part counter wants a VIN for the vehicle or she will not even look at the part. I told her that it's a 240SX and to look it up but somehow she still needs a VIN. If you tell her that you have a JDM vehicle the bitch will not even touch it even though you tell her the exact part you need complete with a part number.
For oil filters, I think they charged like $12.95 for a 53J00 filter and they tried to charge me another $0.95 for the little copper o-ring (first and last time I did that). I went to Mills and it was $9.95 WITH the o-ring thrown it for free. |

Dealership was: West End Nissan
i dont really like west end nissan either, but they are only a 5 min drive away from my place. I only go there for minor work.
I change my own oil do all my own flushes and make sure everything runs good. but if its under warranty, why not let them do it!
im pretty pissed with them charging me for all the AC shit when i never told them to do anything. I think im going to make the drive and hit mills or one on the south side from now on. |

Thats what I thought too...until my roomate bought his car. I would consider Infinity a higher end dealership. He bought a brand new 07 G35 S...it was $53k. They treated him like shit, screwed up numerous times and didn't even wash his car after his oil change. I was shocked with the service he received.
The service was so bad, that he is now driving to Calgary every time it needs service.

Yikes....
If I was treated like crap when I entered a dealership to purchase a vehicile, I would walk out and take it up the ranks with the dealership head office. I would not bother talking to the manager, or sales person.
No resolve to my satrisfaction, then I will put the dealership or business on my list of business I will not deal with and not purchase from them.
There are other dealerships that will gladly take a cheque for $53,000.00 :D

As a service advisor theres a lot of things in this thread that make me mad. I'm not going to defend all dealerships and thier practices because I know that there are a lot of crooked dealers out there, but some of the generalizatons that are being made are pretty silly.
Firstly, I agree with you that you should have been told about the charge to have your a/c checked. I know you told them what the problem was, but thats not how a dealership works. If its a non-warranty repair, then fine, we can replace whatever you tell us to replace, but if its something that is or may be warranty, then it has to be diagnosed by a tech, regardless of how sure you are of the problem. Its not a perfect system, but if the manufacturer is going to pay for the repair, thats the way its got to be.
Secondly, your extended warranty. Now I'm not sure how Nissan's extended warranty works, but most extended warranties are 3rd party, which means they are not through the dealership or the manufacturer, they are essentially through an insurance company. Let me tell you from experience that these warranties have a LOT of exclusions in what they cover and are no where near as comprehensive as the factory warranty. If something is not covered under one of theses types of extended warranty there is little to nothing the service advisor or the dealership can do about it.
Sorry if that was kind of long winded, and as I said, I'm not trying to stick up for every dealer, I just get a little upset when every dealer is generalized and thrown in the same pot. There are some of us that will do everything we can to help you, but sometimes our hands are tied and we just can't help as much as you'd like us to. |

Mike...long story short, this is what happened...
He special ordered his car in the Spring...they said it would take 8-10 weeks to come in. At the time he has a 04 G35 Coupe...so he needed to sell it before his new Sedan came in.
He had a min of 8 weeks to sell it (thats the earliest the dealership said the car would arrive) and 3 weeks later the car arrived! So it was kind of shitty because he still had the Coupe (was expecting more time to sell it) On top of that, they said they could only hold the car for 2 more weeks.
He already had a deposit on the car and still wanted it, so he was in a panic to sell his Coupe. He finally sold it and took possession of his new Sedan.
A month later they called him and said they screwed up with his finances and needed him to come in to go over some things. (They thought he wanted to lease it, when he clearly stated he was BUYING it! lol)
After all that crap, he asked for some compensation and all they could give him was a free oil change
When he got the oil change done, they try to charge him for it. He had to wait around for the manager to come over and fix the mistake.
On top of that, he gets back to his car...and its not washed and it still has the dirty paper floor cover in it.
It was non stop with the problems.
He said if he buys another Infinity, he will be going to Calgary.
