hey guys,

i'm trying to get my megasquirt to work with my car but i'm having troubles with communication between my laptop and ecu. and i'm using the serial port and not the serial to usb adaptor.

i have MS I v.2.2 and i'm trying to set it up for my 86 corolla with a supercharged mr2 motor.

I was wondering if anyone can help me up and just get me running and help me figure out whats up with my laptop so i will be able to make changes to the ecu?

anyhelp would be great, i would love to get this thing out on the road before the snow comes. thanks guys!

i pretty much followed this guide to make the harness and modding the ecu for the input/output. but i'm just having probs burning things into the ecu.

Is it actually recognizing the MS? Do you have the correct COM port set?

i believe it is recognizing the MS, the thing is when i first hook it up to my laptop with the stim and the 9v and i go and check under the communications under COM 1 it says untested and when i hit test it says "success!" so i assume its recognizing it, and i can play around with the guages with the stim.

but then when i try to load the maps and stuff it says it has problems communicating with the MS. and then i lose communication with the stim as well. i was thinking i had a dead 9v so i hooked it all up to my car and still the same things happens.

do i maybe have the wrong version of megatune? or do i have to change some setting in megatune to make it work?

I have Ms2 with a v3 board so take my advice with that in mind. First thing to make sure is that you have loaded the appropriate code into the ms unit. For mine, I have to put the bootloader jumper on and then upload the version I want. Then you have to take the boot loader off before you can actually start using the MS.

I'd start by uploading the most recent code and sticking with the stim until you can get the communication working.

You have followed these steps

check your port speed on com1

ohhh, and also

this step.
You need to tell MegaTune which version of MegaSquirt you have (MS, MS-II, MSnS-E, etc.), as well as the EGO type, etc. To do this, use the mtCfg program, which opens automatically during the installation process (it can be opened directly from the MegaTune folder at any later time). Look for the CODE_VARIANT variable, it will be in 'Car1/settings.ini/Settings/CODE_VARIANT' in the directory tree on the left side of the mtCfg window. Click on CODE_VARIANT. You can then use the drop box in the upper right section of the window to select your code variant, MS_I (for standard B&G code) or MSNS_EXTRA (for MS1/Extra code).

i thougt i flashed mine and swithed to the other code variant thinking it works but i also received a not connected issues.
then i swapped back to the default code and worked.

my flasing didn't work so i ended up reflashing. double checking my code variant ----- great success.
