Recently imported a car from Japan (using another company, which I probably shouldn't have) and I need to get ahold of the original of the export certificate in order to get the car registered here in N.S.
How can I go about obtaining this, as my broker cannot seem to do it for me....which sucks because that's what I paid him for...
Anyway, I will gladly pay to have someone get this item for me...
Dominic? Christian? :) |

The Export Certificate is only produced when the car is de-registered in Japan. The exporter should send it to the importer, is the company you went with an importer or an exporter? If they are an importer in Canada, they really should supply you this document, there is no way they could have imported the vehicle without it. Some provinces like Alberta don't require this document for registration, so they may be ignorant to the fact that in NS you need it.
I believe that an Export Certificate can only be created once, especially if the car was exported from Japan. Threaten the company with legal action to help convince them to provide you the document. |

I have been given a scan of the export certificate, as well as a photo copy included with the car, so I know it does exist. The DMV here in Nova Scotia requires the ORIGINAL, and the photocopy would not do.
They guy I bought the car from is an importer, and apparently he is no longer in business due to BC's tougher laws. He says he has been having trouble reaching someone in Japan (pretty sure the Japan side of things was handled by Monky's Inc.). I don't know if that's BS or not....but either way, I'm getting seriously pissed that my car has not been registered after 1 year of ownership. Oh, it took me at least 6 months to get the B1 form from the guy too.
So, I guess he's the only one that can get this form for me?
I have close relatives in Tokyo....can they be of any help to me?
Thanks for the input guys. |

Like Chrstian stated, there is one copy of it and is always sent to the importer from the exporter for these such cases when it is needed. Speak to Monkys and find out if there is some way they can get you another original as it seems it is a dead end with the importer. |

I have sent an email to the importer dude...baically telling him that I'm on my last nerve.
I'm going to email Monky's...they list an email of "office @ monkys.jp"
Any chance these guys will understand me? Just want to make sure they have some english speaking staff before I write a novel of an email to them :) |

Got in touch with Monky's:
"Hello, I explained to "Frank", that The original document was holding by "Japantax office" now, so We don't have it. We are also waiting them back to the original document to us soon, but They are very lazy, and I believe they might lost it , so they could not contact me since I asked them many times. However We have "Copy document", and We believe You can register the car using by "Clear, colour" copy documents, and I already explained "Frank" it,but He said you need only "Original document", so I explained this situations to "Frank". This time We attached "Copy" document, and We believe you have noproblems when you register your car on this copy documents. best regards,YASMONKY'S INC,"
This was some time ago and I have since emailed them again, looking to see if any progress has been made. No reply.
Just out of curiousity, what is required to register a car in NB or PEI in case things don't work out here in NS. I'm willing to travel.... |

| Sorry, I'm not too familiar with the process in those provinces. Your best bet is looking on the Legalese subforum on GTRCanada.com, if it's not there, then ask them there. There has to be a member on that forum that knows. |

Tried to give the DMV a nice color printout of the Export Cert.
....no dice.
I have relatives in Japan that I'm going to try to recruit to help me.
In the mean time, I'll offer $300 to anyone that can get this document for me! :) |

Well if this is turning into an impossibility, maybe you should get in touch with your provincial member of the legislature. If you plea with them and tell them your story, they should be obligated to at least look into the matter, and hopefully they'll offer you a special method of registering this one time. I'm guessing that this is a one time document from the Japanese government.
You could mention how in some provinces like Alberta, we don't even have to provide this document to the province. You could also mention how Customs and Transport Canada are fine with a photocopy at the time of importation, that the original isn't even required federally. |

Can anyone tell me what is required to register your car in New Brunswick?
I feel a road trip coming on. |

How about in Quebec?
There's an I/C in Montreal....what do they require there?
Surely someone must know!
This is getting rediculous.... |

| Again, GTRCanada's Legalese forum has this covered in some threads, I think there is one that's stickied that covers registration in each province. |

OK, cool. Thanks.
I'll check there again and to see if I've overlooked anything. |
