EZCC - Sept. 29th Namao Slalom - Click HERE for Original Thread

I love ads --------------->

For Z Club members that were planning to come to the slalom at Namao on:
Saturday, September 29th

This is a reminder that the deadline for registration is thursday evening, Sept 20th at midnight!

*No pre-payment required*

You must email your info (required by Namao security) to Andrew (as per our club website link) by that deadline, or you won't get on the base.

However, IF you have already submitted your info to Andrew for any previous EZCC/WRMC Namao events this year you do not need to re-submit.

Hope to see you there, rain or shine (or snow!). Lets try to get a record number of Z Club members out this time.

Jason

Pre-payment? How / when can I pre-pay?

No pre-payment required this time, and I know you've registered for Namao previously this year, so you're good to go Mahesh!

Just don't get yourself invited to another wedding that day and you should be fine. :p

MixManMash
lol. Last weekend wasn't even a wedding. It was just a random last minute trip to Vancouver. I must say it was fun, but different from Slaloming.

Inzane
Lets get some more Zs out on the 29th!!

MixManMash
I'm there. No if ands or buts.

Excellent!

And if it snows, we'll just have to have our 'battle of the winter beaters'! :p
(on that note, is the Protege fixed yet?)

MixManMash
Yes she's fixed. Maranello did an outstanding job. Car drives well, except for the fact that the front struts are worn out (of course, after 144,000 kms). Plus, they only replaced one of the rear struts so the handling feels a little off around corners and on bumps. I plan to at least assemble up my new Tokico HP's and MazdaSpeed Springs this weekend. If I bring the Protege up this weekend, I might even put them on, depending on if the rest of my goodies show up (Progress Rear Sway Bar, Adjustable endlinks because the Mazda ones are junk, and a front strut tower brace).

Snowing here in Calgary today, so I am thinking I might bring the Zed up this weekend before the weather really turns sour.

light flurries. wet. It melts on the spot.

aarrgghh
Still, yikes! I guess we need to start conducting the rituals for good weather for the AutoX and Stratotech.

Inzane
Not to jinx us but so far so good on the weather front for this weekend.

And according to Andrew we got a few more Z Club registrations for this event too.

MX5 Miata Guy
What, is everybody now working in Calgary? Mahesh, we need to talk about your Protege.

MixManMash
Hey Richard,

Sure thing. I am actually heading back up to Edmonton this afternoon and I am going to be proceeding with the suspension install tonight and tomorrow.

Mahesh.

Inzane
Are you running the protege at the autox?

MX5 Miata Guy
If so, I'll need to know PDQ, as I think only your 300Z is on the entrance list... Let me check.

MixManMash
I registered both the Protege and the 300ZX with Andrew.

More than likely, I will be running the 300ZX.

I've got both registered too, but nothing short of snow on saturday would prevent my Z from running baby!!

aarrgghh
I should be registered too.

MixManMash
Looks like the weather is turning sour.

Inzane
Well we don't get a refund on Namao rentals, so we gotta try and have an event, no matter what the weather tomorrow.

MixManMash
That just means I am going to have to put the Mazda back together this afternoon and tonight.

Inzane
Awesome event Saturday!

Thanks to everyone who came out. (from the Z club side: Mahesh U., Jeff K., myself, Ron W., Gord E. and new member Erv H.). Seventeen registered drivers total.

Aside from being a little chilly during setup in the morning, the weather turned out great. And an awesome course. Despite our compressed schedule everyone managed to get 14 laps (7 runs of 2 laps each), plus fun runs.

kellyk75
Didn't make it again........ but do you have pics or vids????

Inzane
Too bad Kelly. You missed a good one.

Unfortunately I don't think anyone had a camera this time. I'm not sure if Jeff was taking in-cabin video this time or not. He was probably too pre-occupied anyway. (We had an issue with a few people getting motion sick on saturday).

kellyk75
I figured it would be a good one. Wan't sure of the weather and I have a vibration problem in the driveshaft I want to fix before I push her to the limits.

Glad it was a good day though......... I'll catch the next Namao auto-x.:dunno:

Inzane
We're done for the season now, except for the Stratotech event. No more slaloms booked for this year.

Its too bad Rob, Tim, John, Roy, etc. had to miss it as well. I guess Rob couldn't get out of work on saturday? And I thought Tim said in another thread that he might come out....

Oh well.

kellyk75
I hear you came in 2 sec. behind the fastest Miata time....... nice!!!

Those Miata's just cook on a small course. Guess I get to wait until next year rip up my tires......

Saturday's my busiest day, and fall is our busiest season. However, I managed to beg and plead for one Saturday off, guess which date... :p

Thanks. Actually I was 2 seconds behind 2nd place, about 5 seconds behind Richard (who had FTD). But, that was over 2 laps, as opposed to normally just one, so I suppose if you take an average that's kinda like saying ~2.5 sec per lap...

Small? Namao's not small, nor at two laps, is it short either. 3.2km by my memory on the length of two laps (per the PCA's track design, so throwing in actual gates, Chicago boxes, lane changes, and other elements, I'd guess 3.4 to 3.5km). Nothing small about it.

kellyk75
:dunno: Never been. I thought they made the turns tight? I was told that the 300's might not even get out of 2nd. I would call that small....

How much autocrossing have you done? (other than Namao, which you said you've never been...)

"Solo 2" rules & regulations, and the accompanying insurance coverage, dictate a 110km/h maximum speed limit on the course. As it turns out that is roughly the speed at the top of 2nd gear in a Z32, depending how high you want to redline (w/ TT gearing a little higher than NA).

As a result, we are limited by the rules, not because "miatas run tighter courses".

But anyway, don't underestimate the fun you can have at an autox and squirting from gate to gate, etc. on the course. 2nd gear is very versatile (particularly with NA gearing).

kellyk75
Never been auto-x'ing..... and def. didn't know about the 110 km maximum. Wasn't trying to insult anyone, just comparing a second gear run to a true flat out track. Comparitively speaking, the auto-x might be considered "tight"..... but not even for a second did I doubt the fun factor.
