If you had a faulty rad cap that wasn't holding the pressure it should, would this cause you to over heat? If so, very easily, and what are some symptoms if anyone knows.
For example, I will be driving very calm on a hot day, but after like 20 minutes the temp creeps up, and when I step on it hard just one time, the temp exploides up. Hmmmmm. |

| hmmm, it would probably eventually do that |

might also be your thermostat that is faulty too. Overheatin is not good at all    Beleive me, too much can lead to blown head gaskets
When it overheats does A/F come spewing out the rad cap?? or does your overflow tank fill and eventually spew out?
When you see your temp guage rising, turn your heater on full blast to help it alittle |

Sounds more like a thermostat/cooling flow problem to me. Your temperature should never be reaching the point of the rad cap failing in the first place. The cap is there to relieve pressure if something goes wrong, rather than blowing a tank off the side of your radiator, or worse in the engine.
I say replace your thermostat(I'm quite confident you can use the same stat as the SR20DE), if that doesn't do it, pull the rad and have a rad shop look it over.....or better yet, just take the car there and see if they can diagnose it.

| Id change both he thermostat and the rad cap, for the expense it is worth it. |

I'd think you just needa replace the rad cap... or theres too much air in the system.. Heat makes air expand, takes up more space, displacing the liquid in your system.. I think thats how it works anyways :)

| The rad cap can cause over heating. The rad cap is designed to hold a specific pressure(pressure raises boiling boint). You may have a air lock but that usually only happens if you have removed and replaced the coolant for some reason. Check to make sure that the fan works. If you have A/C check to make sure that it isn't plugged between the rad and the condesnser. |

One thing he also failed to mention Nimbugusti is that he has an SR20 in that car, not exactly the engine designed for the rad on the car.

| Well it's not that it's the wrong rad (the SR rad if i'm not mistaken is almost identical to the KA one). The problem Aaron was (I think it's semi-fixed right Aaron?) having is that his front mount was taking all the air and blocking the tiny rad that comes with these cars. The stock SR has a sidemount so it's a non-issue but the FMIC causes a few kinks. With the bumper cut out more air is comming into the front of the car so the problem supposedly is getting to be less of a...well problem ;) |

time to buy a bigger rad, or check for small leaks...maybe your motor is drinkin it?

| Time for a Koyo, problem is they don't come cheap. They are nice and big though, damn things are 55mm thick  |

| I cut the bumper open in the front, and now the other HALF of the intercooler is finally showing, and the rad is gettin some more air. There was an immediate difference. Now I never overheat, only when it is hella hot out, and I"m driving it hard. Casual driving is NO problem in the hot weather. The rad was just not gettin enough air. |

Ahhhhh, why didn't I ever think of the FMIC, although I rarely hear about them causing that much restriction. How much boost do you run on the street if you don't mind my asking(if it's not a secret)?

I did this too, no problems ever since, that Apex-i FMIC hogs up ALL of the cooler incoming air :) |

| Aaron more then likely it is yoru rad cap. The exact same thing happened to me when I was in the McDonalds drive through just off whyte ave and my temperature gauge started climbing. I poured some water in my coolant and it was just enough for me to make it into my garage. I replaced the rad cap, added some coolant and haven't had a problem since. Hope this helps  |

| The other problem is that we don't usually use the stock SR shroud and mechanical fan which keeps temps down better than most electric fans. The proximity of the i/c to rad is also a problem on some cars. |
