Standard Def. Signal on HDTV - Click HERE for Original Thread

st185celica
im thinking about getting a 46" Samsung LCD HDTV to replace my 29" Sony CRT TV. What is everyone's experience with watching standard def. cable signal on HDTVs? How is the pciture quality? I know SD on a HDTV usually doesnt look great compared to HD, but is it tolerabled?

is there a certain manufacture that performs better with SD? any manufacture have upconverting built-in the TV?

also on some channels i see "available in HD" before the show starts. does that mean if i have a HDTV, i will receive a HD signal from the channel or do i have to pay to get it?

thanks

i set up a 42" samsung plasma last night with regular cable, and it looks ok, much better than my friends who are doing the same with lcd projections (a few years old now)

but it definetely looks like crap compared to ps3 with hdmi @ 1080
but what can you expect.

im going to tolerate until my shaw student deal runs out, then prob bell hd.

and you dont get any hd for free, that i am aware of, and you will need proper cables- HDMI etc.

that new DiRT game for ps3 looks minted on this set up!

star choice has 17 or so free HD channels. Its 5 bucks more to buy the rest. You will of course need the HD receiver.

what about regular cable vs. digital cable?
will digital cable have a better signal?

i looked at some of the deals shaw had for HD and i dont think its worth it. most of the basic HD channels are news channels

Digital cable does look abit better than normal cable, but not much more. HD looks amazing. I don't know what shaw offers, but I had bell with all of their channels...had so many channels but would only watch HD for the most part and just about every common show is on it now.

I don't have HD anymore and it pisses me off..I'll end up going to starchoice or something shortly.

I had bell, it was great...and at my new place I have no line of sight with the dish for HD...its bs. I'd def go with bell again.
