Ya, I did 3 sessions actually, which came to about 25 minutes of driving, I could have done more but like last time I quit when I felt the car had been raced enough. What a blast, my times kept improving, if I take it back next year I'll try to have a couple upgrades.

Here are my pictures (cell phone camera):

Heres most of my pics :D

I love watching conroy rocket his car around that track.

Man, I wish I'd been able to make it out guys. Unfortunately sleep took precedent.

And here is a link to a video clip. Taken from the stands. Turn two gets really small with this clip. Camera doesn't zoom in when taking videos. And my dads head gets in the way between turn 7 and 8.

looks like a lot of fun... i want to try.
if one was to bring out a talon, no autoX or track experiance (other than in the 1/4 which doesnt count) and go too slow, or possibly too fast and into the grass would one be shunned or accepted into this track society?

Just in the first round, after that no one in group H even came close to each other, we all had comparable times. I improved my times quite a bit, I ended up with a personal best time of 1:12.79, so I think more practice next year and I'll do even better.

not-boosted
if you put 4 tires off pavement at Strato you are done for the day. you will be accepted no matter what :) one dude came out in sentra and he drove ungodly slow he thought doing 90 on the back was fast haha but he has to adjust.

but really if its your first time you will be told to take it easy and get the feel the more you do it the better you will get . :blue:

If you go too slow nobody will care, they'll just put you into a group with other slow people. But if you go off the track you get kicked off for the day... just ask Ryan.

This was my second time out, lots of guys were new like me, and everyone had a blast, next year I hope to make it to every one and I have to drive 2 hours just to get to the south side of Edmonton.

I wasn't kicked out for crashing, I voluntarily stopped.

My brakes were not up to my aggression level that day and the car couldn't hack it.

Racing Brake BBK coming this winter should handle it a little better.

Nice to see an old school 7 as well as a Lotus on the track day. Must have been fun!

I did not know that, I know they were going to kick off some people yesterday for going off, but I guess one of the instructors was a little too eager with his instructions and that's why people went off the track.

4 tires off=no more runs. You wouldn't have been allowed to run if u wanted too.

Guy at the track said I could carry on if I wanted to, but I told him not to worry about since a) He had said that in the driver's brief and b) it probably would have happened again since I'm not going to half-ass it on the track.

Hmm wonder who that was cuz Matt benched Neils when he went off and Neils helps out at every event, I went off but was allowed to go back out with the intsructor not solo, but maybe it was because that was at a practice either way if u go off they usually tell you your done.

stealth
Why do they kick you off? If I paid to make some laps, I would want a refund.

quick_gold
Alright... r u guys sure if i show up in stock Mazda3 i wont be shunned... I have no track experience wat so ever. Also wat to kind of wear expect with a stock car?

I do nt get why everyone thinks its so hard to stay on the track??

The reason you rasked not to go off and the stiff penalty is because this is a go kart and moto track, Dan is kind enough to let us race cars there but only if we leave the track in the same condition as we found it.

And if you went all out and kamakazed into the gravel not only would you feel stupid for most likely wrecking something you would asked to not come back,, we dont need ppl doing that its fucks everyone who actually wants to race more than once.

not-boosted

To add to that also if you hit a gravel trap there will be rocks stuck in your car for weeks and you cna't go back on the track cause you will drop big rocks all over .

95EagleAWD
quote:

Because my brakes were cooked and I couldn't come into the corners as fast as I wanted to.

And yes, I was dropping rocks for a long time.

Cody D
It's not that hard to stay on the track, I'm sure if Ryan's brakes weren't fried he wouldn't have went off. If the guys with huge torque monster cars can stay on the track there shouldn't be many reasons for anyone else to fly off. It's not really that big of an issue, I was going balls out and I didn't come close to leaving the track.

midnite
it's simple.. don't outdrive your cars capabilities. you shouldn't have any excuse if you hit the rocks/grass other that you were out driving your car.

+1, that was the first time I had ever been to anything like this, and I had no issues what so-ever. I went about 80-90% on the first session (practice) and I realized corner 2 was going to be the only issue. Which we were warned about by Matt in the driver's meeting.

I learned one huge lesson though; Never go to an event like this with your stock all-season's!! Unless you really need an excuse to put better tire's on your car.. ahaha, my wifes civic now has blistered michelin pilots!

Pretty much any tire is going to be killed after 30 mins of lapping, some after less.

Ya, the Michelin Pilot MXM4's definitely don't stand up, not even for 2 minutes.

That's the last set of crappy tire's that will ever grace any of my car's. Tirerack get ready!

Every time he went into turn 1 I'd look figuring someone just ate it, lol nope its Landin again hahaha.

Good example for anyone coming out, better off not bringing stock tires.

While I agree with your first comment your second one is totally not true at all. I encourage people to bring their cars out on tires they daily drive on whether it be stock or not. The purpose of these exercises is to let one learn their car better, so what better way to do it than on a set of stockers.

I think rather than discourage stock tires a warning about the wear they are going to incur as a result of thrashing them on the track is a better idea.

Good point Matt, but this was a timed event, if your talking about a non timed event I would agree but for cmpetition events if at all possible I would bring some decent summer tires. Not to discourage anyone from coming either way, just ask Landin how much fun he had even n the stockers.

yah i would love to test out my mini too... not as ballsy as his (measily 42hp and non turbo) but the little fuker handles amazing for a stock car and LOVVVVES corners. hahah

With regards to staying on track, Stratotech is actually pretty good in terms of pavement in the corners. Even when you overcook the corners, there is usually enough pavement to square it off and stay on track.
I've been off at Stratotech once, when I over drove the first lap into corner 2 on cold brakes. My take away was: drive like someone's grandma the first lap. You've got at least eight more laps to get fast.
As for what cars to bring out and what tires to run, I'd say bring whatever car and tires you have access to. Worst case you have some fun and learn some of the handling characteristics of your car.

cheers,
-Trent

i find corner two and three the worse at that track.. but it's more than wide enough to scrub off the speed sideways if you come in to hot... unless you are going way too fast or don't know your car well enough. ;)

try coming into 2 too hot on a bike. I found out real quick that's why you need full leathers to do track days, keeps the brown stains of the track!

I had the same issue, I am thinking it has something to do with the banking coming into the corner, I have spun 3 times, attempting to come threw really tight to the inside. I have to talk to Julian about it more, the guy has thousands of laps there.

I don't think it has anything to do with people hating domestics.

all you need to do is ask. this is a car community domestics included.
