Circuit Training - Click HERE for Original Thread

Marximus
Does anyone recommend Circuit training? And if so, what is your routine?
My goal still is to lose weight.

CYA
i know gizmo really likes circuit training. but i've never used it. i've always stuck with the one body part per week routine. actually... i did try that circuit training for a little while. it was when i went to toronto. i squeezed in a couple body parts each day. didn't really go at it properly though... just kinda half _ss'd
i personally like the one body part per day but circuit training would be pretty good for you since you're looking to lose fat and not bulk up. gotta keep the rest periods down between excercises though.

Marximus
I did all parts of my upper body today,, with no rest periods in between. Completed my whole workout in 15 minutes. Sounds ok?

CYA
15 minutes? hmmm... sounds awfully short? maybe i'm biased though. lol. but i would think weight training even if doing a circuit should be longer. i usually see gizmo starting finishing at about the same time if not longer than me. not for his own workouts but for the people he trains. hardly see him workout now. used to, but not lately.
what excercises are you doing? how many reps? and how many times do you go through the "circuit"?

Marximus
I did
40 Cybex ab machine dips
25 Back extensions
25 arm curls
25 bench presses
I repeated it 3 times, no rest at all. _Didn't work on the legs or do any cardio. bTW thsi is at the gym at work so I want as quick a work out as possible.

CYA
holy chit... lol... all that in 15 minutes? _you must be a cyborg! _i would have dropped on the ground part way through the 2nd round. _
you could try lowering the reps a bit... say 20 reps and up the weight a bit. _20 reps is still high reps so it's a long ways away from training for size. _
if that's going to be your upper body routine all the time i'd actually skip the dips... go for "compound" movements like the bench press you mentioned. _work in a shoulder press excercise too. _reason why is because your triceps will get the workout from the bench press and (edited to shoulder press) shoulder press anyway. _of course on occasion you'd want to throw in a tricep isolation excercise to stimulate growth and muscle development.
back extensions are excellent... something i should have done a long time ago. _now i'm suffering for it. _ _but you also want to do some rowing movements and/or chin ups.
looks good though. _still amazed at the 15 minute time though... wow. _that's 120 dips, 75 back extensions, 75 curls, and 75 bench presses. _you must go nuts in there. _lol.
careful on the joints though... make sure you're warmed up. _

well more like 20 mins, but yeah I go pretty fast, I go during work so its gotta be a quick workout. It doesnt seem that hard - all exercises I do are on equipment, not free weights.
So I should slow down? I'm doing pretty light weights so I'll try upping the weight.
bTW - what is a good tricep exercise?

CYA
if you don't need the rest... well... i can't see a reason to slow down? lol.
as for a good tricep excercise? hmmm... i'd say a dumbell version of the lying tricep extension. just because i'm sure they have dumbells and also because you don't need heavy weights for it.

Marximus
what about this for the triceps?

Of course that's not me :o

CYA
that is a great excercise... one of my favorites. you can also do a variation of this using a rope attachment. both are good.
