So I was washing my car last week, and I noticed my fender was damaged. I looked closer and to my shock, someone had hit my car. My bumper is pushed in, and my fender is damaged. No note was left or anything. So if I were to go to my insurance (ING) to get it fixed, would my rates go up?

your rates would go up, as a collision it sits under your collision coverage, not your comprehencive coverage. a clain to your comp. coverage will never make it go up unless its over used.
look at the cost to have it repaired yourself and then factor the cost to go through insurance and your deductable+rate change and see what looks better. |

I would call your insurance company and ask. I can't imagine rates going up, since hit and run isn't your fault.

My insurance company told me a hit and run would not make the premium go up when i asked them last year.

maby it could be vandalism...
someone gouged my rear bumper in a parking lot and i just left it, maby i should call my insurance and see if i can get it fixed for free.

My wife 06 Outlander got hit and run twice within 2 weeks, the firsts time it happend was at 156 st and 116 ave. The sencond time it happend last Saturday, she was park at the WEM by the zellerz. I haven't called the Insurance about this. Any other members here that had a experience like this and how did you guys dealt with it? Thanks

My friends who have been hit/run use Meloche - Meloche offers a special item on their policy that if you're the victim of a hit/run you pay no deductable if reported within 48 hours (or 24, I forget).
I've never had to use it, but none of my friends have had their rates rise.
If you have multiple claims in a short timeframe then your rates can rise or they may not cover you. Obviously, if you're always the "victim" of a hit/run then it's something you're most likely doing wrong. |

im with Meloche and last year i was invilved in a hit in and run. the worst that happened was i lost my $500 deductible. The damage was over $2g so insurance paid everything minus $500. My rates didnt go up. It also helped that i had a witness that noticed the hit and run

That is the problem with us, we don't have a witness..

you pay your deductable and no, your rates do not increase. I know because I had the same thing happen about a month ago and I also have ING. And yes, ive been hit and run at least 3 times now and this is the first Ive had to pay anything for them. That said, my rates have never increase.

Yeah a couple years ago when i was at school a guy in a pick up backed into my truck and the cops "never tracked him down" ( dont think they ever looked) but my insurance rates didnt go up or anythign and i only had to pay half of my deductable for me it was worth it cuz it was like $2600 damage.
