Guess what I did yesturday (yay for me)...
Okay, so me and a friend went to Kar Bashers to look for stuff for his j-10, and on the walk back to the exit (from the end... we got really bored and couldn't find anything) I was walking around through the 80-85 ish chevy's, and i stumbled upon a sweet a@@ set of bucket seats out of a 80 something cavalier.

Bought them, took them home, and to my delight they fit like a glove (not in the factory holes tho) I was soo happy I got a good find. I went out today to home depot and picket up some nuts, bolts and washers, i opted for the best ones, rated at 120 000 psi... so i think they will be able to hold the seats nice and tight.

The new buckets allow me to build the center console that i have been dreaming about...
I want to have a sub box slash middle console, and i'm in space wars (i don't have any space) And I was wondering, does making a sub box with an isobarik set-up damage the subs..

i am totally confuzeled about isobarik, from pictures, it looks like the subs are bolted right to each other, and it looks like this would wreck the driver... can someone explain?

***I want two 10" subs, in any configuaration, in the least amount of space***

when one sub pushes the other pulls, no damage will occurr. Just space them apart 3/4". Use 1/2 recomended sealed box volume & wire one sub out of phase(backwards). The system won't be as loud as it could be but it will be very small.

is that for any kind of solobarik set-up... i only need to use half the recomended volume?

can i port the solobarik configuration? should i?

rsxman
You mean for Isobarik. half sealed volume yes. porting will increase spl but also increase box size

Thats a sweet idea!!

Good luck with it :D

if you got the buckets out of a smashed 4 door sunbird... thats my girlfriends old car
I found some good scores at kar bashers a few times.. was it muddy at all when u were there?

nope, not too bad... the seats are from an old cavi, it was all in pretty good condition. The seats are great, no rips, stains (although, i'm worried about animals), and i plan on getting them recovered when i re-do the interior.

as far as porting goes, i'm wanting to use three ports (for asthetic reasons), and i don't understnad jl audio's explanation... can annyone indulge on this?

the specs for my sub are as follows
Impedance 4 ohms
Freq. Res. 27-800Hz
Fs 29Hz
Vas ft^3/Litre 2.2 ft^3/62.35 Litres
Xmax .3"/7mm
Qts .40
Sensitivity 89dB
Recomended vented enclosures

volume 1.35 ft^3/38.21L
Driver Displacement 0.08ft^3/2.27L
Port Displacement 0.06ft^3/.85 L
Total Enclosure Volume 1.49 ft^3/41.33 L
port Diameter 3"/76mm
Port length 11"/278mm
Tunning 33Hz
F3 36Hz

properly spacing the subs is the modt important thing to do in that kind of a set up

I was thinking... how cool would this look....
Get a 8" dub, and get a custom made center console to run up parallel with my new seats in the middle. Then have two ports, (about 1 inch wide) side by side, and then have the sub lower down, and get airbrushed, a face... with the two ports the eyes, and the sub the mouth (wide open), with a wacky facial expresion, like he's screaing... how rad would that be...

for asthetic reason only of course, or how good would those sound?

Badazz
enclosure where one woofer is buried in the enclosure and a second is mounted up against the first and wired in reverse polarity (there are other variations for Isobarik designs, but this one is the best). This allows the effective Vas of both drivers working in this push-pull configuration to be half that of a single identical driver mounted normally. Very small enclosures may be constructed as a result, with increased power handling. Any variation of a normal enclosure can be made Isobarik - so you could conceivably have an Isobarik dual reflex bandpass, ect. (good luck tuning it, though). Less efficient than other designs, but the push pull configuration greatly reduces second order harmonic distortion. Originally, a variation of this design was patented by Ivan Tiefenbrun, who produces various audiophile components in Scotland under the name of Linn Products. The name Isobarik comes from a term that means "constant pressure" this stuff rocks
