First car, need some help - Click HERE for Original Thread

I know this type of question is probably asked a lot but... i'm a 18 year old student looking for a car that I can continue to make better(want to put a body kit on it as well), but one that I can afford at this point, and add that stuff as I get more money. I currently have roughly $3000CAD and i'm not quite sure what I can get. What i'm looking for is something such as a CRX, or any typical street racing car that has a lot of modding options. It probably should'nt be a rare car because I live in a city of only about 80,000 people and the crieglist listings only get about 10 or so cars each day, most of which are out of my reach or are minivans, heh. So yeah, suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm not a car guru or fanatic that knows everything or even much of anything, but I would like to learn.

P.S. I live in BC if it matters. ;)

You didn't have to tell us that.

Just buy a Civic/CRX and be done with it. PS bodykits are for high school kids.

I'm looking for some other options, CRX/Civics arn't readily availble in my area, I mean if a CRX showed up i'd probably buy it, not that easy though... just want to open some doors. As for a Civic... personally not a fan, its too... round? I appreciate the suggestion though.

Buy something that suits your current needs then trade or use it as a winter beater it in in a couple years, 90+ accords are bulletproof when properly maintained.

Buddy accross the street from me has a accord, I've been given rides in it too many times that it was practically mine, looking for something different, haha. I see where you are coming from, but I really want something that I could show off now. :\

You won't find much to show off for 3k. Keep saving up your allowance.

Maybe so, but with uni tuition thats about all I can afford at this point. I'll at least try to get something nice.

An old school VW Golf would be pretty cool...

what about an Ae86 :p . There is a fair amount of after market support for them. If you look around you could probably find a pretty good deal, I picked mine up for under 2grand

I love those cars. They are the perfect winter beater. And can last a very long time.

If you dont want to go with a honda a FWD, probably auto, non-turbo DSM (talon/laser/eclipse) might be one of the only options left if you can find one. Thats what i had as my 1st newer car and there not great but with a little work they can be ok. I agree with accord90 dont worry about your 1st car being something you turn into a big project you will need a winter car sooner or later.

GOT BOOST
www.canadatrader.com

Great place to search for cars by year, make, model, and price.

The older civic coupes are nice. I would not mind owning one of them.

You can also check out the for sale section on the forum. there mifht be something that catches your eye.

If you want to race the street is not the place.

Civics are cheap to modify and maintain.

the money you will pay for one of these and the amount of potential that can be made over an extended period of time is limitless.

If you could afford a prelude i would recommend that.

Hmm, the 240sx seems like a car I would want, but I would only be able to afford the S13 series, which is fine though, right? I'm trying to find one priced in my bracket... easier said then done. :P Thanks for the suggestions, i'm still open to more.

Edit: Friend of a friend of mine is selling his(240sx S13 not sure on the year), i'm going to try to get a spec list, I checked it out already... looks good condition, looks like he added custom back lights that look like the Third generation integra lights. Hes selling to some guy already for something a bit less than 3000, but says if I can outbid the guy by a decent margin he would sell it to me.
