Which works better analog switch pins or magnetic pins for the hood and/or trunk of the car? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each?

Use a Mercry Tilt Switch, because it dosent corrode like the magnetic or pin switches.

The regular pin switches and the magnetic pinswitches are not bad but you are right they corrode and break very easy. Magnetic switches are ok but very easy to get around, mercury switchs are great but you cant get them any more b cause mercury is a toxic substance and is no longer permitted for use in consumer electronics. The best thing to use is a factory pin switch they are very whell sealed last a long time and it is very hard to identify one (making it easier to hide your alarm from the bad guys!)

great insight guys thanks. Do mercury switches still work if you're parked on a incline/hill?

mercury switches are not as effective when on a hill. if you want to splurge, buy an alpine (model 8311 if i remember) sealed pinswitch; will literally work under water. it's about 30 bucks but a hell of alot better than those 3.00 carstarter pin switches.

Ya actually if you have the extra 30 bucks or so kicking around get the alpine pin switch heard a few good things about them if I can remember correctly.

But mercury switches are fine on an incline just as long as its no greater than 60 degrees perpendicular or it might cause a problem, and really I wouldent park on an incline greater than 30 degrees anyways.

How much to install a trunk pin or a magnetic pin?
