| is it the matrix just "stretched" onto the imax screen? don't you have to film it in imax to properly vue it on imax? i've heard the picture quality isn't as good. |

For Imax 3D this is true, but these are shot all on high end digital, they can make full use of the Imax screen for regular movies done in digital.

Werd. Wouldn't it be the same as sitting in the front row of a regular theatre? |

| no b/c it's clearer.. and the IMAX will take advantage of the fact that Matrix was filmed digitally :D |

What I don't like about it being that big is because you have to move your eyes around to see the action on the whole screen. I saw X-Men from the fifth row and I hated it, cause I couldn't concentrate on the movie, I kept having to look around all over to catch what was going on. Dunno if I'm making sense, but it bugs the hell out of me.
BTW: I didn't hate X-Men, I hated where I was sitting. |

it might have been filmed digitally, but is it high enough resolution to take advantage of the 75mm film used in the imax? (i think its 75mm)
Movies would be absolutly stunning if they were filmed with imax cameras.. I could only imagine..

Yes, the digital transfer is amazing onto IMAX film, but it's still lacking in true color and depth real IMAX filming provides. But it is significantly clearer than regular movie theaters.
I for one HATE watching feature films on the IMAX screen. Even if you sit at the very back, the human field of view is so limited that you'll need to "pan & scan" your eyes to watch the action. It feels as if you don't fully "take in" the movie.
Also, the sound system at the silvercity IMAX is based on the 5.1 (home theater style) setup, which just doesn't feel right. For a room with that kind of volume, that kind of audio setup just doesn't fill it. Whereas other up-to-date theaters use rather complex audio systems that literally encompasses the room. If you have the time you guys should check out www.dts.com and look at the equipment used in DTS theaters.
But I don't recommend watching any good movies on the IMAX. I personally don't enjoy it nearly as much. It seems like these IMAX conversions of feature films are almost gimicky. I know a lotta movies aren't true IMAX films, but rather 35mm converted onto IMAX. Not sure if this is the case for Matrix though. |
