[Rant]
Lately I've been coming across some people who have, what I feel to be, a snobby attitude when it comes to hobbies/interests.
It brings back memories of my junior high days when "posers" and "wannabes" were looked down upon (keyword: Junior High).
What I don't get is...who really gives a shit?
So what if you're not "hardcore?"
Does one have to alter their entire lifestyle so they can be deemed "worthy" of pursuing an activity? Or that their level of "dedication" to the interest is greater if they're willing to change the very person they are?
It seems like people aren't able to grasp the concept that there is more to living life than XYZ hobby or 123 past time.
"Oh you like gangster rap? And you're wearing a suit?"
"You like watching plays? What do you do again? Construction?"
"You're a girl who likes fine wines but also working on your own car?"
Fuck off.
Get out of your narrow minded skull and see that there is middle ground when it comes to pursuits and interests.
Not everyone fits into a cookie cutter just so they can be accepted into a silly subculture.
Goals, hobbies, pursuits, interests, lifestyles, etc reach BEYOND and go THRU these arbitrary borders.
So what if you don't dress the dress and talk the talk?
You're walking the walk right?
You're taking up the interest right?
Well then that's all that matters!
I say accept and welcome those who are just getting into a new endeavour!
Encourage them and lend a hand when you can.
It's those "snobs" who judge others by how they look & act that ruin new experiences for everyone else.
Say Hi! Shake hands! Treat each other well and it'll only make the entire thing more enjoyable!

Terry if you want to see a "hardcore" competition check out a forum like Zilvia.net
"My car is 1/4" off the ground!!!! Everybody else who isn't this low is a pussy!"
"I stretched some 205's on a 13" wide wheel, holy fuck I'm awesome!!!!!! Nobody can throw down like me!"
"I put 18x10 -40 wheels on. THIS is how you make your wheels flush!!!!" (Never mind that the tire is a 195 and he's running 10 degrees of camber to make it "fit")
Just a pet peeve of mine. |

| http://clubroadster.net/ is just as bad. They have a "SoCal" sub board, and it's like if your not TUCKING rubber in a Miata, you have no place being on the forum. Seriously, tucking rubber on a miata, think about it. I almost made a comment about driving away from the fires in their "super dope slammed miatas." But alas... |

I love what you wrote it's all very true...people put more emphasis on everything that is different or unique about others than what they might have in common

I am into dragsters...funny cars...muscle cars etc and wanted to see what life was like in the import/tuner world
It's been "interesting" up to now. I now know what a Skyline is...can tell the difference between a 2nd and 3rd generation Prelude...took in some drifting events and quite a few car shows this summer
Just trying to get out of my safe zone and broaden my horizons!!

| I find that quite a few people that consider themselves "hardcore" about a hobby, usually know less about it than they think. I had a friend who thought he was a hardcore guitar player, then when I invited him to come jam sometime, I got lame excuse after excuse. I eventually found out that he cant actually play. Go figure. |

Fantastic to hear!
Too many ppl live their entire lives in their own comfy bubble and never really experience all that life has to offer.
