CRANKWALK!!!

What's funny is, with the # of Talon's that have come through the shop (alot), WE HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE SINGLE CASE OF CRANKWALK.

I have only heard of 2-3 case's FROM RELIABLE SOURCE'S (Not 2nd, 3rd,or 4th hand urban legends), throughout NORTH AMERICA.

I have heard that Supra's get crankwalk too but we have never had one come through the shop showing any signs of it, possibly another urban legend?

well the fellows at www.dsmtuners.com and www.dsmtalk.com seem to despise crankwalk. Like for instance, a dude bought a Eclipse (96 gst) in cali and was gonna drive it back to the upper states( i forgot the exact state) but it crankwalked on the way back and he had to pay for a tow ( 1k usd). Talk about bad luck

TheNeonEdge
What exactly is a crankwalk?

SlowAzzPorsche911T
crankwalk is when you buy a shitty car :P J/J!!! here's a linkie cause i'm too lazy to explain it all crankwalk

TheNeonEdge
I tried to understand....i honestly did, it was all jsut whoosh....over my head
;) anyone want to try to put it in simpler terms for me?!

SlowAzzPorsche911T
make Blain explain it's kind of over my head too cause it's so much reading why couldn't they say something like I dunno... oil jet drops, imbeds in crank and busts, main bearing busts, connecting rod goes... and etc. etc.

"Crankwalk" = The crankshaft moving vertically through the engine block. NOT GOOD.

Many theories as to cause, no facts however. Many motors from many manufacturer's suffer from "crankwalk" but it gets noticed in DSM's moreso than other cars because when the crank starts to "walk" it starts to grind off the crank sensor. If the crank sensor gets destroyed, NO STARTY.

There are signs and symptoms of crankwalk to look out for on DSM's. As I stated earlier in this post, MANY manufacturer's have engine's that fall victim to crankwalk but the effects are not as severe. I think Manhunter said he only heard of Supra's being affected by crankwalk in a thread on this very board many moons ago.

EDIT: Maybe this thread should be edited and renamed since it has gone off topic but still contains technical information and links for those looking for information in the future.
