So, a friend and I want to do a road trip. Has anyone gone anywhere? Any tips? Any ideas? :dunno:

I've driven from Edmonton to Saint John, New Brunswick 7 times now. Its a pretty long drive (just under 5,000km) but you get to see a lot.

Taking a trip down south would be cool. Leaving Edmonton when its cold and snowy, and arriving somewhere warm would be sweet.

The US-Mexico border, via the PCH.

We are contemplating driving the entire Trans-Canada Highway. We are going to buy a beater, take out most of the interior for weight reduction, drive it across the country, and sell it in St Johns.

went down to prince rupert. or uP it was fun. nice roads in BC to be honest I just love going anywhere. the best part of our trip was not have a plan at all. stopping where ever we felt like it and just having a good time. come the spring I want to do it again...but in a winnebago or something :D

I thought about renting a RV, but I doubt they would rent one if you arent 21/25.

haha the only way i would go is west through BC on the trans canada. have fun driving through boring as saskatchewan/manitoba. just drive to the okanagan if your looking for a small trip. at some point again id like to take a trip back to mexico all along the west coast.

ya thats true oh well. maybe I would buy one.

on the way home on the bus today I saw a get-away-van and that would be the perfect thing to use, I figure you could get one for under 5g or even less...I wouldn't care of the condition. just a van with the sweet sleeping quarters uptop.

Be prepared for a boring drive, did it once to toronto with family and almost killed myself.
tried it again later with a friend and made it to winnipeg before I went into the gas station to buy razors, and decided to make the rest of the trip through the northern states which I found much more enjoyable.

I always enjoyed bringing a car up the pch, to hwy 199 i believe which is a detour hwy through the redwoods that will take yo from hwy 1 to interstate 5 over the cali oregon border.

I will be doing a trip down to Colorado/Utah in Jan for some snowboarding but I don't expect much from the midwest except a speeding ticket

You'd definately realize how big and gay Ontario is. Their section of the highway is a joke, worse than Sask and Manitoba. But I'm sure they realize people would rather go through the states.

i've drivin from LA to edmonton 6 times this year, also once from indiana. quite a few calgary trips too.

i pack up my pathfinder with gear and me and a couple buddies make the 5 am rip to Golden (kickinghorse), banff (sunshine), lake louise, jasper, kelowna (big white $$), and if we have more time that just a weekend whitefish montana is the destination of choice.

the new "park bridge" that goes into golden is sweet, they were working on it for a long time and now the hiway seems to go over the mountains in that spot instead of twisting around the valley.

i also made a trip out to vernon over the thanksgiving weekend and that was an awsome trip in the summer car!!, we drove up to the base of silver star and that road was a blast with no snow/traffic/traction control.

I would like to drive to Michigan in my Fiero next summer, but I dont have hardly any trunk, hopefully I will have a hitch on my car by then and can pull a trailer. I also hope to have cruise, as a trip that long without cruise would be painful. Bad enough that I have black leather seats, and no A/C.

EK9Hatch
I have driven from Edmonton to Saint John 5 out of the 7 times I've done it WITHOUT Cruise Control or A/C....and it sucks bad.

I'll never drive anywhere far without those to things anymore.

Why on earth would you want to do a trip like that in a beater.. Fuck road trips without a comfortable car.

Its fun for the twisties but thats such a tiny part of the trip.

Were you talking to me?

If so, I don't know how you'd consider my car a beater. A/C, exhaust is quiet with the silencer in, ride is a bit rough but it doesn't bother me. I have a friend who drives down to Oregon allll the time to visit his girlfriend and he has a lifted GMC 2500 with a diesel and noisy as shit mud tires, my GTR isn't going to be so bad.

I drove my GTS-T back from BC with a HKS Superdragger (with a leak) and NO radio.. Fuck that was fun.

Two buddies of mine and myself loaded our sportbikes on a trailer and drove down to vegas this january. It took us about 26 hours to drive there and we all took turns sleeping and driving and did it non stop. Was a pretty cool roadtrip....lots to see, except for the blizzard in southern montana.

Edmonton-Hinton or Edson-Jasper (Cliff diving in gorseshoe or something) Then back through rocky mountin house- Sylvan Lake- Edmonton.

or

Edmonton-Red deer-calgary-Kananaskis-Banff and home..

JoshP2002
If you want just a one or two dayer Ive heard grand cache is really nice. Im thinking of doing that one myself with a couple of friends and go to a lake during this summer.

Geofux
I'm heading to Saskatoon Aug. 29th to Sept. 1st .. quite a while from now, but it'll be a fun road trip when it comes around. I'll be going on some other cruises as well with various groups. Might make a run to Vancouver if money allows. :D
