Yea so anyways, I went to watch American Gangster yesterday...and HOLY SHIT BALLS...
WTF is with all these commercials, ads and all that garbage before the show???:mad: I've noticed it has gotten out of control within the last year or so.
They even play a full song off of some douchebags CD that I don't give a shit about....but I am forced to listen to it anyways.
It took 36 mins to get through all that shit before the movie actually started. That is FUCKED....
Looks like my HD is going to get more and more new movies D/L onto it in the future...fuck the theaters.

| Theaters and movie makers are not making as much money now because guys d/l movies. It does suck to have all the ads. Most of those ads started when people started d/l movies. But ya there are way too many. |

Hmmm...interesting concept.
Although even with internet D/L, Movies are still making hundreds of millions, so I'm not sure they are actually "loosing" money. I think they are just greddy and want more and more...so thats why the put all those ads in there.
The ads differ from pop ads, to music albums, to car ads. Its all garbage though.

| oh very true they are greedy whores. Sadly like the ads on here there is not much we can do about them. If they want money they will get it. It's something like we see over 1000 diff forms of ads a day. And it's only going to get worse. |

Nothing drives me crazier than this bullshit. I want a theatre to start showing all this bullshit BEFORE the scheduled movie start time. With how busy this fucking city is getting you have to show up minimum 30 mins before a movie to not get stuck in the front row, then sit through all this bullshit.
This is one of the main reasons I've almost completely stopped going to movies. I used to go to a movie a week, but not anymore. I'm tired of this shit and I refuse to help perpetuate it. |

In all honesty, I'm surprised it's a recent development. Think about it, you have an audience who've come to stare at a gigantic screen for several hours except, at the moment, they have sweet fuck all on the go. So what a marketer has, essentially, is an almost completely captive audience to whom they can hawk their shit. It makes sense economically as well; The theaters are making more efficient use of their screens now because there are no longer any portions of the day where that screen is not generating revenue in some way.
The only thing I wish is that they'd quit playing that fuckin' Stella ad. I've seen it like 8 billion times and I STILL don't want one. But then again I go to quite a few movies so it could be partially my fault... |

As far as I know, the movie studio has certain movie previews to be played before the movies, but they do not control the ads that are played before hand. The actual movie theatre are the ones that get the revenue from the ads.
And those are the people that are losing money in this battle. They claim that they don't make any money off ticket sales, but rather the concession/advertising/arcade games that reside in their theatres. I know that in the past 10 years movie prices seem to be the same (At SilverCity) while wages and costs have dramatically increased.... |

Someone would have to pay ME to go to the show now. They would also have to drive me there, carry me to my seat, fulfill any wishes, within reason:
-fetch me pop/candy/popcorn refills
-pause the movie whenever I need a pee break (some of those movies are LONG!)
-bust a cap in the ass of the loud-mouthed fuck jabbering away on his cellphone.
Sorry, but no... I refuse to get hosed on the ticket/food/refreshments then have to sit through 30 minutes of ads then have to put up with ignorant people.

| I went and saw either the second or third Matrix movie on opening day. They had seriously 30-40 minutes of ads. Eventually, my brother and I started chanting "Show the movie". The whole theater eventually joined in. Spread the message!!! :thumbup: |

The ads are there because the theatre chain needs to generate more revenue, and what better target than a theatre full of people? The advertiser knows that the people are in their seats because if they come in late they are crammed at the front with their necks cramped.

| i dont know if you guys have this mixed up but Axe spray and red spice and tag all those are meant for your body hence the name bodyspray, its not a replacement for stick deodorant, its meant to be sprayed on your body for your body to smell good, sure you can use it on your armpits but its not as effective as stick deodorant is, and personally like the past few comments i hate kids who spray sooooo much of that shit on fucking stinks |
