Racing Helmet requirement - Click HERE for Original Thread

newred
For next summer I need a helmet & I was wondering what kind I need for Castrol raceway. What kind of Racing Helmet is requirement? Just DOT or Snell?

both I believe... best way to find out is just contact castrol and ask

Buy Snell 2005 and you'll be fine. I believe all Snell helmets are DOT certified, but definitely not all DOT helmets are Snell.

Personally I would recommend a SA2005 (Snell) rated helmet, just because your going to need one if you intend to autocross at any point. If you plan on getting involved in road racing in the next 5 years I would recomment a M rated helmet.

I think you have that backwards. You only need a Snell M rated helmet for autocrossing. Unless you are getting into wheel to wheel racing you likely won't need a SA rated helmet. That said if you plan on any rollover protection I would get a SA rated helmet. That's what I use.

Yes, your right... I really need to get some sleep... :(
