How to screw up a service and detail job , let me count the ways.
ARGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So as some of you know I dropped my Avalon off to Kingsway Toyota on Thursday Nov 15 2007 for Toyota Touch Gold Detail package. Up to that point the service has been outstanding.
I call late this morning to see if my car is ready as I do not want to drive from the south side to the north end to find out it is not. Upon speaking to the service advisor he tells me it is. But the recall could not be done as the part had not arrived.....????? I booked the appt on Monday, you had 4 days to get this part??? He then tells me that because of the age of the vehicle and this is an old recall campaign they do not stock the parts for it. This part is a brake hose. Part #44773-06020. You are telling me you can not get a brake hose in stock with in 4 days?
Great..I pack my stuff and begin my journey.
Upon arriving in the parking lot at first glance the car looks clean but something is not quite right. I look closer and notice that the entire front bumper is still covered in wax, and that there are still many body panels that have wax on them. The windows look like someone quickly washed it with a rag and did not wipe them dry. There were streaks and dry bubble marks on every window.
The windshield had all sorts of crap on the inside of it.
The inside I had not checked as I did not go into the dealership yet.
Starting to fume at this point I walk into the dealership and tell the advisor in front of other people when it is my turn "I called to pick up my car, you told me it was ready, it is not. There is still wax all over it and the windows are very dirty" He pages the detailer and he takes a look at it and tells me he will redo it. It will be about 1.5 hrs.
Crap....what to do for 1.5 hrs...so I head to Northgate mall to see what is or is not happening there.
Upon my arrival, I inspect the car onthe outside in detail again. There is still wax on the headlights, but I am not going to make a stink about it, as it is not worth my time.
I go into pay and the service guy tells me the car looks excellent and they did a great job detailing the car... I tell him that after the second time I am glad they removed the wax.
I go to pay the total comes to $227.85. This included a shop charge of $15.00 in materials????? I ask what the $15.00 charge is for, all you did was detail my car. his reply was that they charge (7.5%) of the work order every time a work order is done and a car is brought in the shop. Should this charge not be included in the cost of detailing?
Fine..so I am pissed off now. The saga continues....
I decide to check the inside of my car to see how it turned out. The inside for the most part looks alright. Nothing that jumps out and screams WOW you did a great job.
I look at the carpets, they look wet. I touch them.....THEY ARE SOAKING WET!!!!!!!! At this point I storm back inside and tell them my carpets are soaking wet and I thought the point of leaving the car overnight with you guys as per your reccomendation was to allow the carpets to dry. The advisors response "He could have done it this morning or redone it. We will have a chat with him when he gets back"
Fine.... I leave back to my car.. At this point I was wondering what else they could have messed up on....well....
I decide to pop the hood and see how good they detailed and shampooed the engine bay.....
I pop the hood, go to the front, open it up......WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is dirty. Not even cleaned.
I storm back into the shop and ask the advisor when they detail cars do you turn the lights on??? Is the Gold package not supposed to include a detail and shampoo of the engine. His reply is yet, I say good...it looks like this guy missed that part. I wait while the detailer is being paged again, turns out he went home... So the advisor goes in the back, comes out a few minutes later and tells me the shop manager will reimburse me $50.00 for the cleaning (whoopte doo) and we can reschedule for a free engine shampoo. I told him to hold on that as I am not sure I want to be taking my car back here for that service. He then tells me that when my brake line comes in and they do the recall, they can do it then. So I say fine.
I leave...but only to return again.....
I am about to loose my mind thinking about the crappy experience. I pull up to 118 Ave on 97 st and do a quick look around. I notice where there was blood on my door, I take a peek in the handle and guess what......there is still blood there. In fact only 1/2 of the handle was cleaned... I pull over on the side, call the service dept to rip them a new one, I get put on hold for 30 seconds...at that point, I hang up, turn around and drive right back to the dealer.
I storm in there again, fuming, ready to lose it and tell the same advisor...how well do you detail cars...really....there was blood in my car when it came in, there is still blood in my car when I left. His response to me is...is is dried blood? WTF....what does it matter...is it not your job to clean the blood out. That is what I am paying you for.
I bring him out to look at my car and he does not see it..I tell him look closer in the handle...you will notice it is only half clean. The other half has alot of dust and blood in there. At that point I noticed there was still alot of wax marks on my window on the inside of the car.
Dude goes back in, gets a rag, and wipes it out. Then he proceeds to tell me to give them a call when I want my engine shampooed. I told him, you are calling me on my brake recall, and you were going to schedule it then. He says, yes, but you still need to call to book an appt. WTF????
On my way home, I notice more crap. They did not clean the dash properly it looks like there are streaks and smear marks on it, and also there are streaks and smear marks on various parts of the car.
I am pissed off. I am sure I can give $227.85 to almost any member here on 780 Tuners and they will do a much better job than these asshats can.
Never will I take nor recommend the Toyota Touch package from them. If they screw up their top package like this..it makes me wonder about the other packages they offer.
Overall I give them 1 out of 10 for service and cleaning. Only because they were able to return my car in one piece and not drop it off a hoist.
This has made me so angry that I am composing a letter to Toyota Canada to express my concerns.

Sorry Mike, but if I was detaling a car and found blood in it, I'd walk away.
Doesn't excuse the rest of the shoddy job, but I sure as shit wouldn't be touching someone else's blood. |

I'll go look for the groove that you wore into the pavement where you kept walking back and forth.
Honestly speaking though, I would only detail the car myself or leave it to someone I trust.
The last time I accepted a "complimentary wash" my car came back with swirl marks all over it.
Never again is anyone else allowed to touch the paint or the interior. |

| Complain to the general manager of the dealership. Usually he will have things done about bad service at a dealership. I did it at West Side Mitsu and the next time I went in there the attitude of the service dept was completely different. Also ask them for the job to be done right or a refund. If they don't do anything for you contact the Better Business Bureau. They might have better luck at getting your money back or your car actually cleaned. |

Ryan,
They knew there was blood in there when I was booking the appt. I told them. They cleaned off the blood that was covering the door.
My view is that I am paying someone to detail my car, then detail it right. I am paying you to clean my car. The person is there to do their job and clean the car, no matter what it in it. I am paying for a premium detailing package, then meet or exceed my expectations. There is no excuse for sloppy workmanship.

| They could have just not cleaned the blood and done a good job on the rest of the car... but they didn't. Blood in this case is no excuse. |

 oh my gawd that so sucks !! And after you were so impressed with the great customer service you initially received.
Yes write that letter and ask to go thru mediations if necessary and I would ask...no demand that my full payment be refunded...they did nothing that was originally discussed...from cleaning to the still wet car rugs.
Refund and a rental car while you are without when they do the complete job for you...again
We can only hope as in another case of dealership dismay that the Kingsway Toyota people read this posting and get in touch with you immediately to make ammends
Good Luck

A little more fuel for the fire. I just found out I was charged The Truck/SUV Price of $199.95 and not the car price of $179.95.
I have decided to CC my letter that I am writing to Toyota Head Office to the Dealership owner, General Manager, and service manager.
As for my carpets, they were not damp like I would expect. It was as if someone had dumped many bottles of water on them. They were soaked. I could have pulled them out, and wrung out the water.
This is unacceptable.

dude that sucks, I wouldnt clean up robbers blood, i would pay someone else like you did. i guess Alberta's economy is to blame. too much money being paid to sub-par labourers. im sure their detailer is a fucktard but they cant fire him because there is no way they are going to get another detailer. so they are stuck with some fucking douchebag who cant clean a goddamn door handle but they kiss his pansy ass because upper management is just happy that he shows up each day.

They pay the detailers $12-14 (from the ads I see in the Sun). And they charge out at $227?
Stealership owned. |

From what I was supposed to receive the price was reasonable. Other places I had looked at was going to be quite a bit more for the same or similar package I was looking at. I had looked at bubbles for example. http://www.bubbles.ca/Detail%20Services.htm $349.95 for the ultimate detail package.
At the end had I known it would have been that much trouble, I would have spent the 12 hrs (any my many steps) detailing and cleaning my self and had a much better result in the end.

Mike, I'd never let a dealer detail my cars. In fact I've got a
'no wash' comment at all the dealers my cars go to for service. I've had a dealer wipe down my car in winter and drag the dirt they didn't wash off up from the rockers to all over the sides of the car. Their response: 'all cars have swirl marks, its no big deal', the service manager even accused me of diving the car away and doing it before coming back to complain even though it was less than two minutes from picking up the keys. Needless to say I don't go there at all anymore, I understand mistakes happen, I was expecting him to apologize and say that he'd talk to his staff about proper cleaning (and following instructions). The detailer I trust is Troy over at the showroom. I've seen before and after scratch mark removable that I didn't think was possible (into base coat and fingernail feelable). |

| I had my car shampooed at lakewood shortly after I bought it, since my car was originally a smokers car, and my parents bought both of their vehicles at lakewood. I liked the job they did, but when I went out to my car, the doors were unlocked. |

Haha I was a detailer there for like 3 years throughout high school.
They still charged that much for the gold package and only paid me something like $8.50/hr I think, but whatever it's not like I was making my career there.
No need to write a letter to the owner, go have a talk with him, you should be able to find him pissed drunk at Kellys on Jasper every night of the week haha. |

It seemed like it had good potential for what was being offered.
My theory is nothing ventured, nothing gained. Now I have the experience of saying I took my car there, got screwed around and not willing to go back for detailing.
I have had detailing shops screw up on my car before. It can not be limited down to a specific shop, I think it is the employees they hire. It seems no one cares about putting pride into the work they do.
Most people seem to do just the bare minimum and hope to get away with it. Infact, most times they do untill they come across me. :D

Mike,
Next time you want your car detailed shoot me a PM. I work out of my garage and my rates are pretty reasonable.
I use only the best products and offer a variety of services including paint correction (swirl removal etc..etc..) Clay barring, Steam cleaning, leather protection and cleaning, paint sealant, basically anything that needs to be done. I take pride in my work and never let crap like what you dealt with fly. |

I just finished parking my car, took a close look at my climate control buttons and radio. There is this white powder shit/goup all in the buttons, around the stereo, edges. Everywhere you can cram this shit, it is there. My shifter for the gear was only partly cleaned. I have pictures of the other crap, but not the radio, or the gear shifter. I will post this tonight. THAT IS IT!!!! I HAVE LOST MY f#$%&#$ MIND!!!!!!!

Already a step ahead of you my man. I brought along the camera and snapped a few pics of the car in the lot before delivery. I have pics of everything except for the wet carpets and the left over blood in the door handle.
