What does a typical 4A-GE with trans go for? Something older, but running. Something that you could tear apart, clean and rebuild to factory for cheap, or is that even possible?
And how hard would a factory rebuild be and what would it cost? Not to necessarily make more power, just run like it would be brand new.
Thank you Sir.
Edit: Also, how much cheaper would it be to do the same with 16v? |

on a typical 4 cylinder motor, it would cost roughly $2000 in labor/parts to get it rebuilt. this depends on whether you need new pistons or not, and the quality of the parts you want to use.
i used some OEM parts as well as some aftermarket parts like felpro and clevite and i think it was around $2500 to get everything machined with parts and everything. the only catch was it would cost me around $400 for them to put everything together, so add that on if you dont know how to assemble motors. i didnt get the head rebuilt cause i had another one rebuilt and ready to go on the motor, so i saved a bit there
if i were to cheap out on parts and use the cheapest parts they offered, then parts would run me around $1100 alone with around $900 or so in labor depending on what needs to be done. this was basically for every gasket needed, and new oil pumps and water pumps and such. nothing was really overlooked as every replaceable part was replaced. the only original part you might have left is the crank and the rods, atleast thats how it was in my case.
it all depends on what your after cause in the end, you get what you pay for. |
