BMW Stereo Install Q - Click HERE for Original Thread

CharLiee
So last night we installed a dvd deck in a bmw , it already had a deck in it so all we did was cut the deck harness and color coded everything, everything worked but no sound.
After an hour of trying to figure it out we put the old deck back in and no sound..amp wires are all connected, anyone with experience doing installs in bmws have any idea what can be wrong?

talonstylz
a blown fuse?
or you hooked up a wrong wire.

CharLiee
checked all fuses..and as far as wires go everything was connected right, we cut off just enough wire off the old deck harness so that everything can just be color coded and connected back together but nothing. how can i use a test lightto see which speaker wire might be connceted wrong?

talonstylz
if you have no sound coming out of any speakers, theres something wrong. Something might not be powering up, hard to say without seeing the wiring or the install, just save yourself the headache and get someone who does this sort of thing to fix it for you. No one is gonna know exactly what you did wrong without seeing it.

CharLiee
Yah i was phoning around for installers but no one is free until after dec. Was hoping someone here would be able to take a look at it

talonstylz
if its just a deck install call audio obsessions 417-0931 they'll get you in prob this week, call tomorrow as there closed sundays. If you need more then just a deck install you'll prob have to wait a few weeks for an appointment to open up.

CharLiee
Alright I'll give em a call tomorow..thanks.

What BMW is it? That would help.

to find speaker leads just use a AA battery and negative to neg, pos to pos, and the speaker will make a scratchy sound. works everytime when i hardwire lol.

usually i do. but if im wireing some old 80's car, try to find a wireing diagram for it. lots of used cars have ghetto wireing already, put in by a previous owner who rewired his speakers by himself. lots of different scenarios. last weekend i put a deck in my ranger and had a hell of a time finding a wireing diagram. with a battery i was done in 10 mins.

as for the bimmer, ya a diagram should be easy to find. its newer.

CharLiee
a member on the board ended up helping me on the install, it was a fuse under the seat that i had no clue about.

good to hear
