Multiple subs per box? - Click HERE for Original Thread

AcousticAudio
Hi I'm new to the forums, and I did search for anyone who had asked this question but came up with nothing.:dunno:

But my question is, if I was to build a box for my subs, is is ok for them to all be in the same, unseperated enclosure? Assuming I leave the recommended cu. ft. for each of the subs, just added together? Or will I have to add dividers in between them so each sub has its own personal air? It should be noted that this will be a sealed box, housing 2 10" subs and one 15".

If anyone knows, or can link me to a page where this has been to discussed that would be great.
Thanks for any help you can offer me.

A box with dividers like you are refering to is called a chambered box. To answer your question I have seen boxes that arent chambered and you can make one without chambers. I am by no means an expert I just play around with audio. But I believe chambered boxes sound better.

I've only ever built 1 chambered box.

I've seen FX audio built boxes not chambered.

The last box I took to a db drag hit 142.8 in a trunk with 2 -10" and it hit 145.5 at a diff comp(different track)

MTX has box building specs with their subs, and they're not chambered..

I guess it depends what your end goal is.

Ohh if you want to run your subs in stereo(why I dunno, but if you wantted too) you would need a chambered box.

If you are insistant on using subs of a different size then you are gonna have to chamber the box to get proper results. Also when doing what your doing the proper way to run it is going to be to set your 15 as a low pass drivers, say 40 hz and down with a 24 db slope and then set your 10's to play in a bandpass crossover from say 43-45 hz to 90 hz also with a 24 db slope crossover. If you dont understand what I just said than it means you probally shouldnt be attempting to use subs of a different size, sell the 15 and buy a 3rd ten. It will make your life easier ;)

Oh heh I missed the part on diff sized subs :P

I've run 2 8"s and 2 10"s before... but the 8's were setup as glorified mids. all chambered of course

Well I dont think anyone would be buying my 15" from me haha. It's an ancient RF punch, circa 1996 or something like that. And my two 10s aren't too special either, a couple of pioneers. I just happen to have them and felt like throwing them in the car. Maybe I'd be better off just using the 15", or just the two 10"s, and getting 4 good speakers inside?

Now your using your head. That is a great idea. Select one size of sub and use that then upgrade your other speakers. That is going to be so much easier to make into a balanced good sounding system.
