Opinions on Short shifters - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hey, has anyone installed an aftermarket short shifter on their ride. If so have you had any problems with it? Where did you buy it? Or any other comments you might have would be greatly appreciated. Maybe it's just the way I sit in my car but I've always felt that the stock shifter was too high.

thx

I have...

Then I got to thinking, this is an "adjustable" shifter... why would I waste my money and position the ball in the center?!...

<twist>, <twist>, <twist>, <wind>, <wind>, <wind>... All the way to the top.

Flickety flick. becareful though, I don't know how well cable shifters take to adjustments like this, but on my NX, I love it.

Anyone who say's it's too short needs a head check, the stock throw is like rowing a boat!.

The only problem I encountered was the bottom of the shifter hitting the cat heat sheild.

Which I fixed by putting a well placed dent in it with a hammer. Problem solved.

It don't hurt to run good gear oil too :)

Ive heard the newer sentras have a "notchy" gearbox.. so if you have problems shifting with your current setup, a shortshifter will probly give you more trouble..

I dont have one YET, but I am planning on getting one (or cutting the shifters overall legnth).

What trim level of Sentra do you have? There is no short shifter for the QR25. I know you can get one for the SR20's, not sure about the QG18's though. Of course this is assuming you've got a B15. I don't know squat about B14's and earlier.

I've only got a '91 that I'm fixing up. It's and XE and it's only got a SR16DE under the hood. I've seen a couple on Ebay for like $20US.

good Deal or big mistake?

any comments?

Coudlnt you just cut the shaft and then rethread it for the nob? or maybe it uses set screws i dunno :)

I don't know if you think that short shifters are physically shorter, but to clear any misunderstandings up, short shifters change the fulcrum so that the throw is shorter, some (maybe most) short shifters are the same height as stock.

on some short shifters the shafts are cut... on others the fulcrum point is changed. it just depends on how the mechinism is setup.. cable operated or otherwise.

Do you mean GA16DE or did you import an SR16?

canadiansentra
My bad b4, it's a GA16DE, b13 body.

I think I might just cut it and re-thread, thanks for the advice.

cheers
