J-bodies in Edmonton - Click HERE for Original Thread

cavalierguy2006
I was wondering how many people that are registered with 780tuners are running j-bodies, and what mods hey have and/or track times. seeing as most people make fun of j-bodies, lets see if there are any of you guys out there doing anything to the "j"

Rich_A
What's funny is I read the title and lol'd like I knew how this will go even though nobody has replied.

Ya I wasnt really expecting anything, but then again it was worth a little try lol, I have to remember I'm in import country lol

oldraven
It's not like anyone with one would admit they drive one in front of this crowd. Far too many people thinking driving a Civic or Lancer like a sports car is any different from driving a J-body the same way. Personally, if one is laughable, the others are just as much.

Good luck figuring out what I just said. :blink:

cavalierguy2006
ya I know what you mean but a civic is a compact also, so if people can admit to driving a neon or civic then a cavalier is not as bad, I know in Ontario(mainly Niagara Falls) you can see alot of cavaliers actually done properly I was hoping maybe one or 2 lol:P , but then again I have to remember most guys (younger generation), want the civic or a car from fast and the furious and as most people can point out on any of those movies you will not see a cavalier.

Godzilla
the one decent one around that i know of is Lafngas's, he hasnt' posted on here for a long time though.

mcmanus7
Lafngas's is pretty nice... I have a 01 sunfire gt that is getting me through university... but really I don't get why people hate on j-body's.... they can't be that bad if toyota decided to sell the cavalier in japan.... i'm sure in another 4-5 years you'll see jdm cavaliers (if the laws don't change)...

i can't see anyone in their right mind importing a toyota cavalier. by the time they are legal it would be cheaper to buy a local one. local would cost maybe a couple grand while the shipping and importing plus purchase price would easily clear 5 grand for a JDM cavalier (that just sounds weird, JDM cavalier)

wubba_65
Check out Jbody Alberta ( www.jbodyalberta.com/smf/ ). Not too many that still own J bodies there, but a tonne of knowledge is available.

Cheers,

Evan.

It's been done. I was flipping through channels the other day, and the JDM Cavalier headline on Speed caught my eye. Someone imported one, riced it out, and made it to television. Mind you, I think the show was Nopi Tunervision, which explains a lot.

Neo-Blue99GASE
Yea, good luck. One buddy here who now owns a bmw I think had a S/C one, but thats about it. I run an N-body personally, but that only has a few more years left in it till I move up to something bigger, like the new G8, which is one sexy car. What do you wanna know about the J-body? There is some parts sharing between it and the N-body 4 banger croud, I could give you some tips, just no times or specific dyno ouputs on the various mods. For example, if your running the ecotec, there are some nice turbo or s/c applications out there and headers are sooo much cheaper than my 3400 headers.

elrhyso
well, cletus. i gone dun got myself a J- BODY and my first thought was, hell i should put on one of them fancy body-like kits dem kids had been puttin on them cars so recently. after dat i reel-ized my speedo meter wasnt moving fast enough so i gon and done put on another mod-o-fy, that which they call a SPOILER. that gaves me the speed i was looky for.

sorry man. no one cares about J-bodies. :thumbup: if you turbo it and beat my car, i'll tip my hat... but i won't respect your car no matter what happens.

Godzilla
dude, to each his own. you drive a 88 prelude, a car that i was considering as a winter beater, i'm not gonna bash you because of it though

elrhyso
yeah it is my winter beater... i dont post my summer car? haha...

you're right though, to each their own. the same kind of post will probably appear in a few weeks, only with "civic" in place of "j body". i'm just bored, and felt like stating my opinion.

Orzel_pl
I had a 91 sunbird once, it was nice, blue in color.

cavalierguy2006
comeon now j-bodies aren't that bad, could be worst....I could be driving a crx or a kcar....but then again I know my car is not that fastest nor do I claim it to be I was just curious cause out in Ontario there are tons that could beat most of the top ten on this site

Prudz_lude
J bodies are just as homosexual as WWE wrestling.

i am just saying it because nobody else is bashing. they seem to be acting mature. 780 make me lol already.

Orzel_pl
I cant bash them because they are a fantastic winter car.

Some people would rather drive a Jbody than a busted ass prelude.

Prudz_lude
lol i need to change what i drive. My prelude has no suspension, it only has its 2 rear quarters left on it and all the wiring lololol. It is sitting on 3 jack stands. Its about to meet its maker by a power saw and then the trash cans since nobody can get it out of my garage now ;)

PS i would still rock it over a j body if the suspension and engine was still in it hahahaha

Congrats, but nobody really gives a fuck if there's a fast J-body or two in Ontario.

They're cheaply made, ugly (IMO) and not the most reliable vehicles on earth. Yes, I'd choose one over a K-car, but that's only because the J-body would be newer. J-bodys ARE the K-car of the 90's.

ROFL :lol: :lol: :lol:

DerekMD
Actually J-Bodies are closer to the chevette of today. They are a great vehicle to get from point A to B with good fuel mileage and economical to purchase new or used. Easy to work on, easy to get parts for. The 2.2 and 2.4 are both reliable motors as long as the coolant is maintained to keep the headgaskets from corroding. Ive seen a few tastfully massaged ones and some pretty quick ones at the track. No I do not own one nor have i ever but I am a GM guy so maybe my opinion is a little biased.

ron1
if you want to see a lot of j-bodies together go to the JUNKYARD then you'll know why you don't see them on the streets here.
look at the damage to them.( silly domestic, racing 's for imports)

sorry to be the bearer of bad news

have a nice day

elrhyso
LOL thanks for the new sig brotha... :thumbup: classic line

ron1
no prob
the truth is out there
i just thought they should know

T-LAV MRV
i came from Ontario, drove 2 j bodies, and once i got rid of them my life was whole again. not once have i seen or heard of a cavy or sunflower beating a skyline, srt4, nsex, rx7.

j bodies are the cheapest of crap, and to say they would beat most of the top ten here is got to be the dumbest thing I've read in a while.

come out to a meet with this discussion and u will be laughed at uncontrollably till u leave, and even then we will still be laughing.

i'd take a turbo'd k car over a j body anyday.

mike

Why is it that the dominant trait of the Albertan male is to be a complete prick? Just because it's expected it doesn't mean you have to follow through.

Tokes, I'm sure your Mom think's you're cool.

Anyone with a sense of automotive history knows that the mitsubishi GS is the K-car of the day. That little chassis is in one form or another sitting under plenty of Chrysler products.

* 2005–present Mitsubishi Outlander (GS)[3]
* 2007–present Mitsubishi Lancer[4][5] (GS41 - sedan, GS44S - hatchback)
* 2007–present Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X (GS)
* 2007–present Mitsubishi Delica (GS)[6]

[edit] Chrysler

* 2007–present Chrysler Sebring (JS)
* 2007–present Dodge Caliber hatchback (PM)
* 2007–present Jeep Compass sports wagon (MK)
* 2007–present Jeep Patriot crossover SUV (MK)
* 2008–present Dodge Avenger (JS)
* 2009 Dodge Journey (JC49)[7][8][9]

cavalierguy2006
first off I didn't say all of them can, I said some of them can, thats the difference, and if you haven't seen a j-body, beat a skyline then not sure about that one theres a couple in the area that get beaten by a guy with a 2.2 cavalier. but to have guys say they are crap and stuff, its pretty biased seeing as to how most of you drive an import. I'm not claiming a 14 second car is faster then all import(especially when it was designed as a sport compact), but then again you guys made up your mind and bash everyone with different cars, thats pretty sad seeing as how I dont go making fun of a Prelude, neon, or most other cars out there.....but then again I cant expect everyone to be mature on this site, since after all I was just curious on what and if anyone drives a cav thats it

They are crap from front to back. The driving position is poor, the seats are horrible, the gearbox is rubbish, the brakes and suspension are weak, steering is vague, the stock gm/delco radio sucks, the interior and exterior fit and finish is brutal, the so-called "leather" upgrade for the steering wheel & shifter is a joke, and even how the doors feel and sound when you open and close them is appalling.

Sure, they are cheap transportation to get from point A to B, but you certainly won't ENJOY any aspect of that trip. They are not a "driver's" car in the slightest.

T-LAV MRV
majority of the people on here drives Honda's, Subaru's, nissans of ALL sorts, Mazda's. not many people here that have been on the site awhile drive j body's due to the fact of very little aftermarket support, and the "tune ability" of them.

Who here has rust on their car? That always looks like poop, and people tend to still love the car.

Hey Oldraven, I know you are in Nova Scotia now. If you get a chance to make it out to the Greenwood drag strip next summer keep and eye out for a grey cavalier with a body kit on it .His fastest pass this year was 11.57 at 126mph. That car could hand some or alot of the cars on this site their asses. Personally, I find that anytime I see a Cavalier or sunfire I automatically assume a chick is driving but if I had to drive one I would make the best of it.
here is an underhood shot of it.

T-LAV MRV, thats a remark of someone that doesn't know to much about the car, there is tons of after market parts for the j-bodies just look around, almost anything you look for for a civic you could for the most part find for a j-body but then again thats edmonton....but I think time to give up on this post since people cant learn when it comes to cars you should be able to respect them all the same, people rarely make fun of neons and civics, but j-body is evil here, no wonder most dont post about there cars because as soon as they do everyone jumps down their throat with lack of knowledge or lack of respect.

Give this guy a cookie.

Don't think Neon's don't get bashed to hell on here, though. Anything domestic does.

cavalierguy2006
you know come to think about it if imports are better, then why did Toyota copy Chevrolet? does that mean toyota's suck? from 1996-2000(approx.), Toyota had the Toyota Cavalier, with the same specs as the Chev Cavalier, so before people can say imports are better.......please do a little research, some are and some aren't

Oh, shit. Please close that can of worms. :p

If you do some more research, you'll see Chevrolet has been using Toyota's, in their purest form aside from badges, since the early 80's. Google 1987 Chevrolet Nova, and you'll see a Corolla.

And how many Toyota Cavaliers do you see in Japan? not many, because they were a failure in sales and reliability.

Ajaxs
I got a stock cavy for a winter beater lol
