| My dad has an 02 sierra 6.6L Turbo diesel. Anyways, he brought it to a gas station in sherwood park, asked them to fill it (he was almost empty, so its mostly gas, not much diesel)) adn he ended up with gasoline in it, 80$ worth. I dont know if he pulled up to the wrong pump, or if it was the guy at the stations fault... anyways, we gotta get it out. He drove, 5 mins, mainly using a mix of diesel/gas, and then it started running pretty shit, so he pulled over and turned it off. As far as i know, he hasnt screwed anything yet. If we dropped the gas tank, and emptied it should he be okay? Or does the fuel system need to be "primed" to get rid of the gasoline in it aswell? im lookin this up on google right now too... |

| It's probably half fucked. Gasoline burns way hotter than diesel. |

| yea i know. im thinking the injectors might still be good tho, since he didnt run it for long, and when he was running it it was still probably a diesel/gas mix. So im guessing if we flush the system it might still be alright. new fuel filters, should be good. :fingersx: |

If you drain the tank, re-fill with diesel, you will be fine. The gas/diesel mix thats in the fuel pump/lines will not be enough to ruin the motor.

Not a whole lot you can do...I suppose you could disconnect the injectors and let it spray everywhere....that might work.

| on a 6.6L duramax you can prime the system. there is a bleeder on a fuel line infront of the engine covered by a plastic screw on cap. i have used a screwdriver with a rag on the end to depress the bleeder (its kinda like a valvestem) and drain the fluid, to pump the fluie there is a cylinder on top of the fuel filter, you push on that to pump the fuel. it is on the passenger side of the engine compartment near the back. |

| Did your dad tell the kid to fill it up with diesel or did he just assume the kid knew? $8/hour doesn't get you the sharpest tools in the shed |

thats harsh, my dad would shit a brick if someone put gas in his diesel, hopefully its ok, flush the system and hopefully your seals are ok, i put diesel in my old probe before, wouldn't run until i filled the whole tank with gas, it then smelt like shit for the next month blowing some mean smoke.. lol cleaned my injectors thats forsure, and my seals were ok, i was worried my turbo was toast,
good luck. |

Thats probably the LAST thing I would do. That would give the dealership an excuse to void the whole warranty.

okay, so i would take off fuel tank, empty it, then i could use the bleeder valve to get rid of the remaining gasoline?, and then fill the tank with diesel, and bleed again?
am i missing anything and will this work well?
(p.s thanks for the good info) |

| it should work but it would be time consuming, if you have 2 people you could have someone cycle the key instead of pushing the manuel fuel pump. just becareful of the fuel spraying out the bleeder. |

02,... warranty's probably done anyway. |

| yea he drove it to fort mac and back for a few years... so its at... 22x xxx kms. i bet the warranty is done, but it would save some money probably. and its something i have never done before, so i wouldnt mind doing it. |

another possible way would be to remove the fuel return line. (rear of head to tank).
it should have an electric fuel pump that primes until it reaches the pressure it wants to. that way when you turn it'll just keep priming until you tighten the return line up to the head.
you can let it bleed out that way instead of pushing down the bleeder valve forever and letting it spray.. haha. just flush clean diesel through the system and try not to let any air in or it'll have to be bled again.
good luck
haha kevin, i remember that night when u did that. what a gong show. |

make sure to check the spark plugs when you're done, they could be fucked.... or gone, even.

| So I'm a little lost as to how this happened? Did your dad pull up to a gas and not diesel pump? Or are they side by side at this station? If he pulled up to a diesel pump and the kid stretched a hose over from a gas pump I would be having the gas station pay for any work that needs to be done. |

x2, I would make the gas station pay for it to get towed to a shop, and let a shop have the fun of draining all the gas out and filling it again with diesel plus all the other stuff they might have to do. |

yea, so i worked on it today, it was runnin really shit, popped the hood, and i figure out it wasnt the gas. SOMEONE JACKED THE SPARK PLUGS!! like omg, does this happen to all diesels?i know the injectors are expensive, but i guess spark plugs for diesels are expensive too? all of them where gone. it was still runnin but not that good. ill have to get new ones, and get them tuned.
haha jk. probably had you going tho. lol. im prolly gonna drain it this weekend. fill it with diesel prime it, see if it runs. AND I DIDNT START IT TODAY, it was a joke.
and to reply to the other guy, my dad pulled up to the wrong pump. he thought it was a diesel one for some reason. told the guy to fill it, put 88$ of gasoline in it. so they are both at fault... mainly all my dads fault i would say. |

| I am surprised it isn't totally fucked. when i worked at a ski hill the shell guy put the gas in the diesel tank and the diesel in the gas tank .we filled all our brand new snow cats with gas and pretty much melted the entire blocks into a pile of metal shell got a a pretty sweet bill of 70g's |

Yeah, you really have to watch those "spark plugs" in a DIESEL.  |

|, thats harsh , my question is , where the hell are you gonna drain the 88 litres of gasoline into? |

| i pulled into a shell one time and put 50 l of gas in my diesel... so i just filled the rest with deisel and drove the whole tank dry seemed to work ok... |

Won't be able to prime the fuel pump with the key in a duramax, it doesn't have an in tank pump.
You can flush the fuel out by pumping the priming pump, which is on top of the fuel filter. There is also a hex head screw with a recess for a blade screwdriver beside the pump. This is the main air bleed screw.
Make sure you get all the gas out of the tank, and replace the fuel filter.
You will need a fuel line disconnect tool to separate the fuel lines from the frame rail fuel lines. |
