Need a Z32NA ECU for A/T Car - Click HERE for Original Thread

Zedaholic
We're trying to sort out some issues with '90 Z32NA A/T car. The engine was just rebuilt and is not running as it should. The wiring harness was replaced during the rebuild process. I'd like to swap the ECU out to see if that's the problem.

Can anyone help out?

who did the rebuild? what did you rebuid? if a shop did it, i suggest bringing it back to the shop.

The bottom end of the engine was completely rebuilt by Reg at Sumarus due to a spun rod bearing. The block was bored out to match the new pistons, and the crank was reground. New parts include connecting rods, main bearings, rod bearings, timing belt, tensioner, idler pullies, injectors, detonation sensor and harness, PCV valves and all hoses. I don't have any concerns about the the actual engine rebuild as Reg knows his way around engines and he did the work himself.

The engine runs, but there's a miss at idle. What's puzzling is the problem seems to be related to electrical. We've swapped out the power transistor with a new one and found that the miss jumped from #3 to #4. The car starts OK when warm, but doesn't start as well when cold.

While the engine was out, the main engine harness was replaced with one from Concept Z. What was a bit of a surprize was the new harness was damaged where it connects to the power transistor. I'm pretty sure that the connector wasn't damaged during the install as the cracked connector had a plastic cover protecting it. The damage was discovered while trouble shooting the problem, but only once the plastic cover was removed.

I suspect the problem is either the new harness or the ECU. I'd like to rule out the ECU before considering the harness as that would mean the engine has to come out agian.

The car is still at the shop until the problem is sorted out.

I could swing around with the convertible and we could try my ECU, is Sumaru open this weekend? Monday I also have some time in the afternoon. There shouldn't be too much different between '90 and '93 NA auto ECU's.

aarrgghh
Is this the engine you tested the oil in?

Sorry to hear the problem still isn't fixed. :(

Gord,

From the sounds of it, I think the PTU connector(s) might be a little flaky. I assume you tried wiggling it to see if the miss goes away?

I would really be surprised if it's the ECU. Really sounds more like a wiring harness issue.

Mahesh.

2nd. Did the ECU throw a Code 21 (ignition circuit) or even a code 31 (ECU circuit)?
