As some of you have read about my disaster detailing story with Kingsway Toyota… I like to give praise where praise is due.
I upon finding my last surprise on Tuesday Nov 20 2007, I decided to call the general manager to express my severe displeasure with the service and workmanship. I had started to write a letter but decided to call first to see what they would do.
Upon speaking with the General manager for a few minutes, he requested that I sent him a point form email as it is easier for him to work with all the details (which is fine by me, it leaves me with a record). He tells me he talk with the service dept and get back to me.
I had a chat with him on Thursday morning and he was very apologetic. They are going to refund me completely, shampoo the engine (for free), and clean up the car to my specs when the car is in getting the recall work done on Monday. (The part came in this past Monday night).
I would have been happy with just it detailed again and clean up the mess on the inside. Since the offer came up for a full refund, then I accepted that. A courtesy car would have been nice but I can just borrow the wifes car again.
So far for problem resolution I give them a 10/10 with judgment reserved when I see the final product.

Good to hear they are paying attention though. |

$220 for a full detail?? inside and out? and an engine wash? wow.
That's a good deal though I'm hesitant to go through your first experience.
Good to hear shit got sorted out. |

The full refund was offered by the General Manager before I even asked. I accepted. :D
I am fairly certain I will leave happy on Monday with a clean car, clean engine and with work completed. :D
I will post up if it was to my specs and if it was completed or not.

So the car is now sitting in their lot.
I left a nice note saying the car was in for recall work and a re detail as per my email to Paul. (General Manager).
We shall see what happens.
I am also 90% Sure they swiped my new $12.00 snow brush. I know they swiped a bunch of pens, a fuse, and a few car bolts that were loose and resting in the "pen holder".

...and the verdict is in...
-The work was completed as requested.
-The car was washed again
-99% of the left over detail crap that was stuck in my climate control buttons, radio buttons and edging where the two units sit, was gone
-Detail crap where the dash is was mostly removed
-Gear lever looks like an effort was made to clean it, but not clean as is should be
-Dash appeared to be re cleaned, although it was hard to tell in the dark
-Drivers side rear door has some detail residue left over, looks like it was missed. Not a big issue.
-Could not check if engine was detailed and cleaned, as hood was frozed shut. However after the car was running for a few minutes I could smell the detail and engine shampoo coming through the vents. Got home and it was completed as requested.
-The service techs were singing a different tune when I went in. Maybe it was the suit/trenchcoat combo or the page and a half email sent to the general manager.
-Was told my refund cheque was mailed out earlier in the week and I should recieve it shortly. When I got home, checked the mail it was there.
-They had my stuff all ready to go and paged the detail guy to the desk before I went out for the inspection. Both service techs and the detail guy appeared to be relieved when I said it was "acceptable" and I am much happier now.
-Not sure if they broke the passanger side vent or not. I can not recall if it was broken prior to going in. I never move it, so it is hard to say. I will let it go.
-Attached to the reciept was a print out of the next scheduled maintainence with pricing for the car's KM's. Even though I do most of my own work I thought this was a nice touch, especially for those who do not do any of their own work.
Overall, work completed as requested, car washed money refunded, still annoyed with the whole thing, but they did as they mentioned for the resoloution. The small issues I can live with now for a free detail.
Still rate the problem resoloution 10/10 taking into consideration the wash now cost me nothing.

I should have known better to check in the darker lights.
Upon closer inspection there is still detailing shit in my tape deck, still in the buttons and on the climate control gauges.
The dash still looks like crap and the drivers rear door still have white detailing crap that left run marks.
The run marks on the airbag are still there. They are easy to wipe off, but WTF???
That is it. They are off my list. I have my money back and I am done with them. I think I will still write Toyota Canada about this.

Meh…
I would not be nightmare if they did what they were supposed to do in the first place. :D That is clean my car according to the package I paid for, and not leave the inside of the car full of detailing goop and runs on various interior parts.

Mike
these guys are in the CUSTOMER SERVICE business
you are they're business
they should do it right the first time
if not they 're fired .no bullshit with refunds and "oh i'm sorry we'll do it again. you should'nt of had to waste your time fuckin around to get a good job done.
all the time wasted callin the manager and bringin the car back to them was your time. it should never of happened
point: the dealer should get their shit right the first time if not start findin people who can.
that's the problem we as consumers let them away with it the first time so the business thinks" thats ok we'll fuck up the first time they'll come back. i never let a bussiness have a 2nd chance if they mess up i go some where else.
sorry to rant but you paid hard earned money for good service and didn't get it.
where ever you go i hope your next experience with customer service is a lot better
BTW i live next to kingsway toyota
i could ACCIDENTLY blow up the building |

| I'm pretty surprised none of the bosses took the time to check out their employees' work that has cost them so much time, effort, and money. It would have been the clever thing to do. |

I can guarantee that they did not. If they had I would not have had anywhere near the hassle.
Ron, I hear what you are saying and agree. The recall work was free. But even then they can not seem to get their asses out of their head when it comes to detailing, even on the re detail they missed the mark. At the end of the day, I got my money back and it cost me nothing but alot of time. I will be in the market for a new daily driver with in a few years and they are off my list for purchasing it, and any remote service work that needs to be done.
Next time I want a detail I will do it my self, or if I am feeling lazy,I will hit up someone on here. Mind you I have high expectations. If they do not deliver, I will ride them!

agreed.
they lost money on me. :D Had they not screwed up and continued to screw up then the would have made money.
I figure they lost out on about $100,000.00 on new business from me over the next 3 to 5 years. Depending on car, the rate of financing if I decide to finance car or draw on investments. Depending on rates. Service work. This does not include referrals to them.
I get good service from a shop, I will refer to them, and continue to refer to them. That is the best way to do it.

OKAY.....SOMEONE IS GOING TO HAVE SOME EXPLAINING TO DO!!!!!
I went to do a quick check in my service manual and owners manual for some records......the bastards stole my service manual and my owners manual from my car. This had ALL my service records in it.
Theft from car.
1) Service schedule manual
2) Owners Manual
3) All service records and purchases for car, including warranty info
4) My brand new $20.000 ricer red snow brush
5) Some mis Bolts, fuses, and pens
Broke the passanger side vent.
Still can not get their shit together. WTF??? Seriously.... Someone should get canned over this.
Letter to Toyota is being drafted.

OK I would gather that the "detailers" remove the items from the car...so they can do a good job...so one would think owner's contents are put in a bag and labeled to ensure they get their stuff back
The economy has unfortunately caused workers that don't give a damn right now...customer service is rare to find...but sometimes it borders on ridiculous...
I can't imagine the scene if you are told it was thrown out
I think I'm in the wrong business...I know none of this $hit would have gone on if I was doing the job  |

agreed. I prefer the detailer to remove stuff so he or she can clean it properly. Common sense dictates that you should put items like owners manuals, service manuals, pens, fuses, bolts back in the spot the were taken from, or at the very least call the owner and ask for permission to throw it out.
But what was supposed to have been done, was either done at all or not done properly.

Just sent off an email to the general manager, cc’d to my self. Giving praise and also letting them know of the vents, the missing manuals, records, snow brush, fuse, and bolts. Also letting them know that the inside of the car was not touched when it was supposed to.
I will keep you up dated.

Update…
So after speaking with their customer care person at the dealership here is the outcome and here is what they proposed.
1) Car will be taken to Ming. They will do what ever needs to be done to the car to bring it up to my standards and make sure it is cleaned and detailed. Kingsway Toyota is picking up the Tab no matter what it costs.
2) They are purchasing a new passenger side vent and will install it. Again, they will be picking up the tab on this one
3) They have a bag with my stuff that they found, including my snow brush. They offered to drop it off at my work or home. Since I work in downtown I will go there and pick it up. They can also see the damage to the vent, and also the lack of detailing that was done.
Now I am very happy that this issue has been resolved. :D
+1 for going out of the way and making this work and doing what needs to be done.
