Hi, folks,
Will need to replace my tires in the spring - been on since 2003 and the rear treads are pretty near flat. Right now they are Hankook Ventus tires. From what I read, I'm figuring that the Toyo Proxes T1R's are not a bad overall deal.
What's your recommendation? Remember, I've got an N/A so I'm not needing super high-performance slicks and I want to keep the stock wheels. |

| sell me your 93 wheels? |

| Probably not, sounds like he wants to keep them. |

| Yup - thought I made that clear about my wheels. Oh, well - we all have our moments. I went into the gas station yesterday to get windshield wiper fluid, couldn't find any, and then the lady told me to look outside - right where I just passed, in plain sight. :) |

| I'm rolling T1Rs and I love them. Dunno about sizes though. |

| I checked the T1R's out and they have them in the stock wheel sizes for my Two, so that's a go. So, thumbs up from you, obviously! |

That's exactly why I'd want extra high-performance tires. You don't have the power to accelerate, so you need to carry that speed through the corners.
Of course, if you're not planning on driving that way, it doesn't matter so much.
Just out of curiosity (mostly 'cause I'm too lazy to search) what size are you looking for? I'm a big fan of Potenzas on a daily driver. They are pretty expensive for the performance level though. I don't know if Falken makes Azenis in the size you'd need, but from what I've gathered, they're the ONLY tire for autocross if you're not competing with R-compounds. |

I think you can upsise your tires while staying on stock rims, which might be something to look into.
When you're shopping around, talk to the OK tire guys at st albert trail and 118th ave. They hooked me up, and mounting was perfect.
Oh yeah, also while I think about it, 93 wheels look pretty sweet with a spacer on the rears. Looks just like stock, but just a little better. Should be pics up on mr2oc. |

If I remember correctly as I sit on my butt in the living room:
205/55R15 in front
225/R5015 in back
Hadn't thought about the cornering thing. Toyo does classify the T1R as ultra-high performance, so I guess they may be up that alley. The speed rating is V, which is 240K max - safe to say I'll rarely go over 130-140K in my car. I'm not a big fan of speeding tix.
Funniest thing is, and you guys might see this too, is I've noticed my car is good for getting OTHER people speeding tix, since they think it's funny to blow by me to show off. Had one guy do it and a cruiser came by not 30 seconds later, wheeled around right in front of me and nailed him.
As Nelson would say: Ha ha!
And, Tech2, I've got an OK Tire in my hometown so thanks for the advice, but I'll probably go there next spring. I'll definitely check into the spacer idea. |

Yup, Azenis will work for you. Those are the sizes I want to put on my MKI. I'm pretty sure the H speed rating will be quite adequate. Higher ratings are cool for bragging rights, but really don't make much of a difference unless you've got a lead foot. I'm thinking they might actually be HARDER tires (and therefore less grippy at the speeds you're likely to acheive) just to hold together at the higher speeds. Of course, I might just be talking out my @$$ on that note...
Nothing wrong with Toyos either. They're one of the R-compounds I'm looking at. It's down to Toyo RA1s or Yokohama ADVAN A032Rs. I won't be deciding until summer - maybe. I might run a season or 2 on street tires, just to get the extra learning time, or maybe just to save some money. The treadwear on R-compounds is insane! |
