i have a 94 honda accord exr and when the car is in park it will idil from 1000rpm to 2000rpm then back to 1000rpm and over and over. is this just becasue of the cold or what else could it be?

sounds like a bad throttle positioning sensor... does it stop when the car is warm? in any case- get a new throttle body from the junkyard. 4 bolts, a few coolant lines, 1 sensor clip (roughly) and the throttle cable. the TPS is on the back of the throttle body, but i know with alot of honda's they rivet it rith to the TB so you cant just change the sensor

im prety sure it dosent have anything to do with your tps sensor. your problem is your FITV ( Fast idle thermo valve ) witch is located right under your throttle body.

easy to fix:

take it off your throttle body and and when you have it in your hands one end has a plate with 2 screws take that little plate off and you will see the thermo valve its plastic white. all you have to do is take a flathead screw driver and screw the thermo valve until its tight. then no more hunting idle!!!!

Well first I would recomend doing some trouble shooting ma man.

Take off your air intake, whatever it is, I don't care, lose it.
Now that you have that off look into your throttle body, there should lie two holes. I think. Both justified to the bottom left of the throttle body, one hole above the other.

Alright, now after you have reached success with step one, we'll move onto number two.

After you have located these two holes, keep your hood open and return to your driver's seat, start up your honda, and wait for the idle to start fluctuating.

Now, return to your engine, and look into the throttle body. You will clearly notice that the fly is not moving back and forth. Good. However you may just be lucky enough to hear a gross vaccum. No good. Find which one of the holes inside your throttle is creating this vaccum. There is a simple way of doing this, with your finger. Place your finger over first the bottom hole, or the top. You will maybe feel a vaccum! Now if you cover the one that you have found to be the vaccum, does your idle return to normal, maybe slightly lower than normal? Hopefully....?

NOW! Is where we solve the problem, this step is crucial to having you sexy honda running back at it's normal, non-vtec inspired idle. If the vaccum is within the top hole, it is your "Idle Air Control Valve". Which is located on the back, underside of the intake manifold, now I'm not going to go into detail about how to go about this procedure, you can use google or another popular internet search engine ma man. Now, if the vaccum is being created by the bottom hole, well then, as mentioned above, that would be your "Fast Idle Thermo Valve." In which case, as mentioned, it is one the bottom of your throttle body, remove the 10mm bolts from it, then there should be a metal plate or somethin on it, remove that bad boy and notice a white, plastic washer. Screw it down on it's thread snuggly. Now notice I chose my dictionary carefuly there, snuggly, not tightly ma man.

Enjoy buddy.
