So i bought an extension cord but it only had to holes my extension cord on my truck had 3 but when i grabed it one of the things fell off so now its 2-2 i plugged it in it made a crackle noise and smoked abit i quickly disconnected it then plugged back in after making sure it didnt harm anything it didnt make any cracks or noises now so i left it plugged in? is this stupid? or was it just the angle i had it plugged in?:S

aarrgghh
Don't. I'm assuming the ground prong broke off instead of one of the other spade prongs. The ground is normally there for a good reason, if nothing else to prevent you from pluging it in backwards (some systems are polorized) or to prevent a short from electrifying the object and potentially giving you a lethal shock (which could also happen if the system is designed to be polorized and its now backwards). Replace any cord that is broken for safety reasons. If the extension smoked (or even got hot to the touch) its probably not a big enough guage, get at least a 14 guage cord, 12 is better for long runs or high loads. I don't know why they sell the dinky 16 and 18 stuff other then for led christmas lights. If the connection smoked, it could just be grease or goop on the spades or corroded connections, clean those up if so.

Thanks and there was some dirt and shit on the cord But thx

if it's plugged into a house outlite then it's an AC source which doesn't matter if it's plugged in backwards :D just thought I would put in my two cents.

and yes he is right don't take off the ground pin on a cord for the simple reason that now you are ungrounded
