I'm looking to buy a car alarm, because my car is parked in a cruddy area of downtown Edmonton during the work day.
I want one that will remote-alert me, if one of the crack-smoking, welfare sucking, tax-dollar-wasting, sewer rat lowlife waste of flesh retards tries to break into my car again (gee, I don't sound TOO BITTER, do I?)
Obviously, since I haven't won the lottery and am therefore forced to continue working for a living, I don't have all the money in the world, I need to keep the cost down as well.
So, which one should I buy, and where should I get it?
TIA |

Compustar 2WSS Series.
Taken from Compustar.org:
This Series is the most recent product introduced by Firstech. It is a two-way communication remote pager that incorporates a unique LCD, liquid crystal display, to provide full surveillance of ones vehicle. Due to the unique modulation of this system, based off of Spread Spectrum technology, we are able to provide a range of up to 6000 feet.
CompuSTAR is the first system on the market that incorporates this ground breaking technology into security and remote start systems for ones vehicle. Spread Spectrum Technology has been kept top secret for many years. In fact, spread spectrum radio communications has long been a favorite of the military because of its transparent qualities. Likewise, because this form of modulation prevents jamming and is hard for enemy interception, it will also provide unmatched security and protection for ones vehicle.
The 2WSS-Series comes in the following models:
2WSS-AS (two-way spread spectrum alarm/starter combo)
2WSS-S (two-way spread spectrum starter only)
2WSS-A (two-way spread spectrum alarm only)
William and the boys at Tec-Auto Electric should be able to set you up with something if you are on the West End. Tell them Blaine from Pro Drag sent you. |

the compustar is a good unit but the only thing I dont like is the range of the page back on the alarm side. And if something small happens to your car like warn away (first stage impact) you dont know about it unless you send a query to your car! :gay:

| I have a compustar and i'm quite happy with it. You could also look into the Boomerang, it has a page feature but also a GPS transmitter so your car can be monitored if stolen and remotely shut down by the owner with a cell phone. I'm not sure of the cost of it though. |

The compustar FM series will actually give you a better range than the SS series. I supply most of the dealers in edmonton with them and I have found people are happier with the Fm. Only advantage you get with the SS besides spending more $$ is vibration alert. One disadvantage is the alarm section is just OK, it tends to false the shock sensor on occasion. Viper is much better especially at not falsing all the time. One quick fix is to replace the supplied shock sensor with one from Viper, it is the 508D it retails for about 129.00 well worth it. If your car is an automatic, Viper makes a great unit, 790XV, I am using it right now, I have never had a false once!! I will tell you though the range is much less only about 1500' compared to 3000'+ with the compustar. Hope that helps. Matrix, Autotemp, International, Adrenaline Audio, JB's, and Signature are among a few of the dealers that I have seen some of the better work come out of.
Oh yeah, the Boomerang systems don't work out here right now, I heard that there is a snag with the cell system contracts here. BTW boomerang doesn't use GPS they actually use cell towers to triangulate your location. Couple of manufaturers are coming out with GPS soon, these systems will work out here too. Estimated cost of such a beast will range quite a bit depending on what features you want. ... ie Remote start, unlock your doors, sunroof control etc through the system so now range is well unlimited. Price starts at @ $600 - $1200, plus monthly monitoring fees, those will be around $10 or so. These prices are just estimates right now, nothing is set just yet, should be released around the fall. |
