Need louder car horn - Click HERE for Original Thread

rexxrally
My 86 Corolla GTS has the most pathetic horn I've ever heard in my life, and it almost cost me my ride the other day. A 16 yo blond bimbo with her stereo cranked almost drove me into a pole when she changed into my lane, when I was right beside her! I almost couldn't hear the almost comical beep-beep above her stereo, so I'm sure she didn't. She kept right on going. She never did know that I was there.......

So, I want to replace the horns. Is it just a matter of finding a Chev pickup truck in a wrecking yard, and pulling the horns out of it and putting it in my car, or is there more to it (like wiring and amperage) than that?

Type. K

If it was me driving and somebody decided they liked my lane more than I did, I would let them hit me. I have had it with being forced to perform evasive manouvers because people can't drive.

Air horns rule. Something off of a cruise ship is what I want.

Buddy of mine got some dual air horns from Princess Auto for about $40. Got 'em because one of his horns was toast. They aren't as loud as I thought they would be, but definitely louder than stock. The cool part is that they sound kind of Italian

Mekanik22
Yep. Just get a new horn. Or get 2. I've honked at people who ride their bikes on the road, and when I had a dual horns, the bike rider almost had a heart attack and barely missed the curb...

BlueTurboEGG
$35 or so nets you a twin Hella Air horn kit, simple hook up, you can even wire it with your factory horn.

I ditched my RR horn for this, no regrets, ask me to let you listen when you see me.

Z3r03rr0r
get one of those sweet aftermarket set ups that play La Cucaracha, or maybe the DulKs of Hazard horn. :D

it shouldn't be too tough to switch out the horns for something a little louder

TheNeonEdge
What about hte airhorn in a bottle.. that way you can point it in her window! haha

Hey man, what are you doing? Bikes are SUPPOSED to be on the road! If you read the Highway Traffic Act, it even deems a bike as a vehicle, subject to all rules and regulations including speeding tickets, etc. Riding on the sidewalk gets you a $50 ticket.

maybe they are in the middle of the road? They should also move over to allow faster traffic to pass..

Yeah, if I was driving a more expensive car, I probably woulda done that. But, I was driving my 86 Corolla GTS Hatchback, which the insurance companies consider to be worth about the same as..........well, dirt, so if she had scratched the paint on my fender, the insurance company would have written the car off on me. And I love my ride, so I watch out for the loonies!!!

Plus, there's also the hassle of dealing with insurance companies, and a bodyshop, and a rental car. And then getting the car back and it's not right, and then it goes back to the bodyshop and they fix it again, and it just isn't the same as it was before, blah, blah, blah. You know, the usual "trying to straighten out my pop can" blues....................

Reflux;
No, she was driving a plain-jane Red Ford Tempo 2 door......

If the insurance company writes it off, gladly accept their cheque then buy the car back for $500 or less and spend it on mods.
The longer we let people get away with driving as if they have had a frontal lobotomy the worse our roads will be. Let them hit you when it is their fault and let THEIR insurance suffer a little.

Another law that doesnt make sence...if htey are supposed to be on hte road
a. why arnt they insured
b. why dont htey have lisence plates.
c. ive seen a guy get hit on a bike by a car, im sure if you were on the sidewalk you'd have a less chance of getting hurt by a person than a car.
another :gay: law

Well, considering that if she had squished me into the curb (and possibly the street light) there would have been damage to both sides of the front end, a wheel bent under, possible frame damage, etc......

It would have cost a lot more to fix than what the insurance company would've given me for the write-off. To then pay $500 more to get it back, it would've ended up costing me a LOT more than it was worth.......

I'd rather just avoid the hassle altogether.

Don't let them PUSH you to the curb. Keep following your lane, most people even those "gifted" driver's among us usually cease what they are doing once their stupidity causes damage.

With the new legislation it's not worth it to let your car be written off, because you'll never get it back on the road because of all the testing.

And, if she's driving her 2 door tempo, who knows if shes even insured. I know a LOT of kids who drove around with NO insurance @ 16, or drove a parents car they weren't insured for because of the cost.

Would I want to take that chance? Hardly.

I've told myself if I'm going to get hit by a car that's under 10K I'll avoid. If it's over 10K, I'll consider letting it hit me. Reason being, if it has no insurance at least I can get it impounded on the spot, then slap a lien on it right away (And maybe get it seized until the accident is resolved). At least then I'm covered.

I'm all for taking the shitty drivers off the road - but a LOT of shitty drivers don't carry insurance. A LOT.

RF has recently purchased a mountain bike, so he's "attune" to the needs of a rider.

[RANT]

The bike riders I HATE:

Any fool with a bike in the University area and within an 8 km range.

Why?, because they all:

Weave in and out of traffic
Will take the sidewalk or road, whichever is most convenient for them most often employing both to get ahead
Will always occupy the right side of the road when traffic is heaviest forcing you to swerve to avoid them
ride tot he FRONT OF THE GODDAMN LINE when all other traffic has stopped at a red light FORCING all the drivers to get by that little M-FER AGAIN!
Think they own the road and have right of way

[/RANT]

BlueTruboEGG;

Boy, do I agree with you!

Another thing they do that really irks me is that they demand their right of way on the road "because they're a vehicle, too" but then they'll demand that you stop for them at a crosswalk "because they're a pedestrian, you know!!!"

They also claim to be a vehicle on the road, but then they ignore red lights at their leisure because they're not cars...................

You can't have your cake and eat it, too!!!!

I also hate it when they pull up in the middle of the left turn lane to turn left. They can't go fast enough to beat the traffic coming, so they sit there. Meanwhile, I'm stuck behind them, and I could've gone 3 times already!!!!

Those are the dumb pricks that give us cyclists a bad rep. Not everyone is into cutting off traffic and doing dumb things like that. I ride on the road because I have to. I get off my bike and walk it across the intersection to make a left and only use the road if it's not busy. Some drivers are too stupid to notice anything smaller than a Suburban. If you think adult cyclists on the main streets are bad, you haven't seen the little kids on the road... accidents waiting to happen, I tell ya!

Besides me+bike < 200lbs. Rims+tires = 200lbs, so you it's no contest if you hit me. And the main reason I stay right and use the bike paths.

Z3r03rr0r
maybe you could get one of these
