| Im from Calgary and i am looking to get an engine swap done on my 91 300zx 2+2. Is there any garage willing to this in edmonton? I am looking for an engine other than the vg30 that is in there right now. I am looking at a few options? Thanx |

i know some owners swap in RB engines cause their easier to work on. and since the VG series is a royal whore to work on, i probably would too. and its more unique then the typical z32 |

And you can get a glorious oil pump shattering, hot running son-of-a-bitch known as the RB, woohoo! |

Hopefully you're talking about replacing your VG30DE with a VG30DETT, because any other swap into that car just doesn't make any rational sense, IMO. |

| I was told this from mechanics who do specific work on performance nissans |
|
|
| superspeed |
| reason peopel say they are bad cause usually they are no in good condition or not taken care of. They can handle quite a bit of power before you have to open up the engine. i belive greg dupree managed 450whp with stock turbos and 555 injectors and LOTS OF TUNING |

I would seriously reconsider taking advice from whoever these guys are. Like superspeed said, do some research, the facts speak for themselves. Most of which is in black and white with numbers to back it up. Not just some guy saying so. |

Yeah, haven't you heard? RB26's are cheap and easy to make power with :dunno: |

Yes, you can make good power with a VG. Yes, it can be bulletproof reliable.
But are you willing to put in the time/money is the questions. Z32's are an absolute whorehouse to work on. It takes a lot of money to maintain them, because parts are expensive and maintenance costs a lot of money because of how time consuming it is.
Honestly, I would just get a better car... |

Amusing statement coming from someone who drives a rotary.
Mine has not been expensive to maintain at all, havent had to do any major repairs other usual wear and tear stuff. Parts are readily available, lots of used stuff out there and a ton of aftermarket support. It will certainly cost more than say a civic but relative to cars in its class the costs are pretty much inline. |

I know lots of people that drive around Z32's with no problems as well. I'm not saying that you will have problems. I am saying you will have a large bill when something does go, because of the nature of the vehicle.
My Rotary is not reliable by nature. It makes a lot of power, produces a lot of heat and is a bitch to tune. But the fact that I could rebuild the motor and replace it three times before you actually removed yours is what makes it worthwhile to me.
Thats my arguement. |

| some have pulled the z32 engine out in 3hrs.... and working on the z is not hard unless your doing the turbo. once you remove the radiator everything is quite accessible. |

Yeah... sure... I've never worked on a 300 before... |

| i did a tt swap in my na in my garage, of course didn't pull the motor in 3 hrs i did it in 5 hrs with another helper. I m not doubting u never worked on a z. |

Everyone says they did it in this amount of time... but it never happened... I pulled the engine in 8 hours with the use of a hoist, rebuilt the whole motor top to bottom in a course of 6 weeks, working a few hours here and there, and replaced it over the course of 3-4 days working on it around 5 hours per day.
Its a pain in the ass to work on, I know best. |

Myself helped him work on the same car, and with all experience i have had swapping motors and so on, the 300z's are a pain period. You almost need a complete tool box of special nissan tools just to work on them. I agree with 95integ, i rather have my ls1 fc or my 68 bigblock charger, i can accually complete a r and r in a hr. |

| Is there anybody who would want to do a VG30DE to VG30DETT swap in a 91 300zx 2+2 or know of any shops within about a 500 km radius of calgary. Autodream and Alvin automotive in calgary are to busy to get it done before this spring. |

if u wana be original go wih a l28 inline 6 out of a early model Z fully built with triple sidedraft webers. ive only ever seen one and it was at a show here in edmonton about 4-5 years ago. insane but i danno what it ran for number i think it was a race car. |

| And guys with fully built L28's are lucky to crack into the 13's naturally aspirated, what a waste of time. |
