| Hey guys. I'm just curious to how much a SR20DET swap in a 240SX would cost? It's not like i'm going to put one in my cavalier or a civic or anything..lol...I'm just curious because I see it all over the place. Does it have to come from Japan or something? Anyways, fill a curious guy in...haha...thanks guys. |

| for just the plain jane stock motor including labour, can be between $5000 - $7000. Depends on many things. Nevermind the $1000 - $3000 you need laying around for the "just-in-case" things that always go wrong. |

| So, what does that mean, they are unreliable engines? or is it like that with all swaps? |

| NOTE: Everything can and will go wrong! I always liked the formula...take whatever price you initially planned out for the work to cost...and double it. It has always seemed to work for me. Same goes for how long it will take, except in my case I quadruple that number. |

Does it come turbocharged too? I kind of thought that after you said JUST for the plain stock engine.... |

Yeah, meaning stock sidemount intercooler, stock downpipe, stock exhaust, stock clutch, stock flywheel, stock boost........................... STOCK. Yes, they are turbo charged.
When you import engines you have ABSOLUTELY no idea of what you are getting. God only knows what the heck is wrong with it before it shows up at your garage. But once you make a purchase on those things, you're stuck with it. Engines are very reliable, but generally the sources where you buy them from are not. lol |

i had spent upwards of 7k on my v8-S15 jimmy.. totally different beast tho :)
Yes SR20DETs are turbo from the factory, they are fairly reliable, and pretty "stout".. good ofr about 400HP on a stock bottom end (I think)..

| I second that. GTS Jeff and SRBURG13. Closer to 5,000 for me. There is ways to make your swap easier but know guarantee on whether your engine is good. The importer I deal with pulls SRs that he has seen running in Japan. Which means they should be good when they get here. |

ohhh, so these are used engines? I thought most the time if you swap out one motor and put the other one in, your new swap has like 0 km's on it. lol, I'm totally clueless about swaps... |

Yeah there used. For instance, a S13 redtop SR20det comes from the 91-94 Silvias and 180sx's. When and if the car gets totalled and write off, they chop the car in half and sent it around the world as a front clip or engine set. Being used, you can never really know what your going to get. It could be a granny driven car with 50,000km or it could be the workhorse of a drifter and could have been brutally abused for 20,000km. You never really know... |

| When buying most used parts, (if unsure where they come from) its like playing the lottory, some times you win, and alot of times you loose, dont get me wrong, ill buy used before new, becasue you save money, and your getting an origanal factory part  |
