Ange and I went out and bought an '03 Saturn Vue AWD VTi CVT yesterday. It's fully loaded, other than the V6, and only has 82,000 klicks on it. It runs a 2.2 Ecotec, so I'm pretty happy about that. They're known for being very stout motors, and can be found in just about any compact/midsize vehicle made by GM in the last five years.

It is night and day, compared to the GC. And that's a good thing. We're still trying to get all the invoices together, but I believe in the year and a half that we've owned the Jeep, it has been payed for three times over in repairs. Factor in fuel savings and comprehensive insurance, and there might be a $50 difference a month.

It's quite comfortable, rides well, and the adaptive electric power steering works flawlessly. There's no effort at low speeds, and at highway speeds the power steering is essentially off, and gives decent weighty feel.

Oh, and no rust or dents! That means a lot to your average Nova Scotian. :D

And something to keep my slightly on topic. Words can't describe how wrong this feels.

Congrats on the new vehicle!

But I'm curious. You went from a domestic you had bad experience with (the jeep), to... another domestic. :dunno:

Do you have an aversion to Japanese? Did you at least look at any?

Hopefully you're GM fares better than your Chrysler. Good luck.

I've owned plenty of imports in my life. And my first Jeep was golden (not in colour). We would have kept it, but we were side-swiped on a dirt road when we first got back home, and couldn't use a bashed up Jeep as our company vehicle. The Grand Cherokee was a POS, and I'll never own one again. I'll say this, though, the powertrain was solid, even at 230k+. It was everything else that fell apart. Half the things that went wrong had been 'fixed' before, as in they got the old part to work well enough to sell it.

I've never claimed that domestics were more reliable. I'd be a fool to do so. But I will say that when something breaks, at least it will cost a fraction of the price of a similar Japanese part. That's why we haven't returned to Japanese vehicles. That and I like domestics. :p

That said, I've only heard good things about the later model Ecotecs, if not the VTi CVT.
