Hmm. I've been hearing so many different things lately that I'm tossing this topic on here.
Anyways, I'm looking at turbo-ing my b18b right now, and tuning with Hondata, as I've heard it's the most reliable setup for a daily driver... lower compression than the GSR engine.
Though lately I've been hearing that you can turbo a GSR engine and make it just as reliable for a daily driver an have no problems...
What do you guys think! |

| stick with what you have. i recommend you put a VTEC head on your b18b and make an LS/Vtec + turbo = god |

| Haha.. but what would the head do for me overly? |

| Just take a b18b.. and boost the fuck outta it til it explodes... then build it with forged internals. |

Pretty good setup indeed. But if you got the cash K20 FTW |

| Are there any good turbo'd K24 setups yet? I'd love to see a turbocharged TSX! |

Life sucks?
I'm just looking for some options.. I did a search but if there was an older one maybe it was deleted. :dunno: |

| From what I'm hearing, B18B rebuilt, with an vtec head.. good for daily driver? Yet good power? |

ok, Its harder to tune a vtec for turbo, something about maping a separate non-vtec and vtec a/f curves which you could do with Hondata anyway but if you dont need it why go out of your way and do all that.
If i were you, dont even worry about tracking down a vtec head(lots of people get aftermarket cams to get rid of vtec..and to get a more aggressive valve timming:) ) find a good turbo(i think 60 spec is the size people are running with b18s?? no?) and run about 7 or 8 psi.
Now the good thing about this is that if you want more power down the road, you just have to build the engine up then turn up the boost, 15psi and the internals to hold it would be nice:D
have fun! |

People eliminate VTEC in race cars, not street cars.
And the benefits to a VTEC head are much more than just having two sets of cam lobes. Different shaped combustion chambers, much larger ports, much larger valves, better port angles, better valvetrain setup even once you go aftermarket, etc.
A fully hogged out LS head isn't going to flow much/any better than a bone stock B16 head.
Tuning a vtec car really isn't that much harder than tuning a non-vtec car. And even if it takes an extra hour to tune the car, if you would rather sacrifice 60-80 WHP over an extra hour of tuning, I think you need to go drive a stock Grand Caravan to haul around your kiddies since you sound like a soccer mom.
In conclusion, don't give advice unless you know what you're talking about  |

Sorry if I sounded like a dick, I'm just tired of hearing the arguments of what Honda engine is the best to boost, etc, etc.
I give you props for at least being specific and noting 2 engines you are interested in.
The best answer is as follows...
1 is not better than the other, they both have more potential that what you will be using it for. If you are wanting a daily driver, what are your goals? How fast of a car are you looking for? Most people talk about HP numbers and all that BS but it really doesnt mean shit.
A dyno queen and a streetable car are quite often two different beasts.
My advice is to do as much research as you can, its good to ask questions, but ask them on a more specific board like Honda-tech.com
Good luck :)

double mapped tuning is possible, didnt say it wasn't
i haven't seen a vtec head side by side with a non-vtec so i wouldn't know the small differences...my advice has some truth to it so I think it was worth posting. |

Anyone ever had experience with a vtec head on an ls engine?
Also, lsd, is it worth the money ? |

an LSD is ALWAYS worth the money, unless you driving a pinto or some crap.
its traction. traction is always a good thing. |

I had a b18b bottom end with a b16a head, and a jdm b16 tranny with an lsd on my civics first build and found it to be fun and quite reliable once it got running. Plus it would have been slightly easier/safer, and cheaper to boost than a b18c, like my build had originally intended, before i decide to go n/a with another engine |
