my friend wants to know if she can hook an amp up to the stock HU because she can get a good deal on a sub/amp combo
and i know that these are a pain in the ass to replace the HU
would an amp wire directly up? |

| I would highly doubt that the factory stereo in a 97 Ford Taurus has connections (usually RCA) to run a signal to your amp. |

installing a sub does not mean you need rca's.
if your amp has the ability for high level input, the crossover on the amp can be used to get the frequency down under 70hz. |

| or you could go get a line output converter, which are not cheap at all, but if you want quality, your better off to not cheap out on one. |

| The built in equalization might make it sound like crap once it's all said and done, though. A lot of factory soundsystems limit the amount of bass. |

so if a taurus has a high level input it can be hooked up to an amp?

| Line-level just means it's pulling signal from a speaker lead. As long as your amp can support it, you're good to go. |

| Just so you know, if you are doing high level, the factory amp is behind a panel in the rear on the driver side. There you can find you speaker wires for high level but there is no ignition wire so you will still need to run a remote lead from the front of the car unless the amp has a smart engage system that turns on when it recieves signal like the MTX amps. |
