| I was having a conversation with a friend and found out that she did not lock her doors at night. Do you lock your doors at night? |
|
|
| sparkycivic |
mine are automatic-spring loaded ones that you have to push an extra button to make them stay open... locked myself out a few times getting used to this.......
I consider the neighborhood where i live to be about as low risk as it gets for being in the city, so I don't think much about it. only bikes that are unlocked get taken. |

good question. I was relating to my house though....
of course I lock my 300zx's doors...
but my pathfinder.. ha I really don't care, in the summer I had all the doors unlocked and some nights all the windows down to :p |

If I'm driving a piece of shit car, and never leave anything of value in it, I'll leave it unlocked... Especially if it has no power locks.
My house, I'll leave unlocked if somebody is home, but if I'm gone out - I lock up. |

I think it has a lot to do with your 'hood and how you were raised... I know my parents lock their doors now, which is strange, because they never used to...
But I guess, up until a few years ago, they had 3 sons who were all almost 7 feet and close to 300lbs... So... That has to help I suppose. My old man is no slouch either, but he's getting up there in years, so... hehe |

| I was somewhat referring to house doors, but its interesting to hear about things people lock up. We never used to lock our doors, then we had some drunk dude wake up on our couch, and since then, the doors get locked. I live in St Albert too! haha |

| We've got three locks on our house doors and they are always locked and alarmed. |

I'm cronic.. unless I'm leaving again right away that dead bolt is on.
My parent's used to leave their place unlocked, but they have 2 big dogs and 1 little mutt with masculinity problems(aka goes for the groin), and a basement dweller with swords
But on Halloween the guy across the street got murdered... so now they lock the door. |

| Always lock car doors and house doors. Never set the alarm in the house though. |

Always lock the house doors and car doors.
I double check to make sure the car is locked in the car when I see hobo's walking in the crosswalk in front of me.

Yeah, but how many other people don't set their alarms... I'm in the same boat as a lot of other people. People in my house come home at a lot of weird times.. the last thing I would want when I come home at after 2am meanwhile being shit tired is to have to re-arm the pita. |

I lock the shit out of everything. When I was visiting friends in Sask, we went to Moose Jaw for a couple hours and when we got back they just walked in without unlocking anything. Fuckin blew me away. I thought they were just joking about never locking anything up. |

it makes more sense in the rougher areas of town. even the better areas of town as well. you wouldnt want to get robbed during the day cause you were at work or anything anyways with no signs of forced entry.
i always lock the door when i leave unless im just outside doing something. |

Which makes me think about insurance coverage aswell. You wont be covered if your doors werent locked. |

I always lock up everything (My house, my car...my locker at the gym:p)
I don't trust the general public. You never know who might be watching you, or just wanting to rip you off for a rock.

Yeah no shit, I live in a small town, we got robbed one year on Christmas friggin day.. I was at my folks with my wife we get a call from a friend who was checking up on our pets and stuff.... "Uhh did you guys take the computer with you?"
us: "Yeah "
him: "Did you move the recliner?"
us: "Yeah"
him: "Did you take the home theater?"
us: "Noooo....."
he called the recmp for us, we burned our way up there.. the wife took off first, I was grabbing plywood and tools cause I had no idea how they got in... but the friggin bastard took everything including a bottle of listerine... we found out later he took a couple loads by hand went out to a near by community, stole a ford explorer... came back and took everything else...
He got 1 year... sheesh
**edit, he just kicked in the front door, the one neighbour was away, and the next neighbour was related to him, he carried first couple loads there. |

Everything is locked all the time...
No longer are they your "average" thiefs and people kill for anything these days
Car doors are locked when I am in it or not...not interested in getting jacked at the traffic lights
Home doors are locked when I am inside you hear these days of people who just walk into people's homes even when they are home
Doors are locked when I am out in the yard even they watch for that sort of thing...while you are outside they enter in the door and clean you out
The world is no longer what it use to be...locked doors may not prevent the theft but at least I've got a chance

| I lock the doors right after I come in the house, just a habit I cant break since I grew up in the Northside. |

| Last time I checked we live in a big city, not a fairytale small town. Everything is locked tight at all times, plus two huge dogs, plus additional assets. And I live in a good area, but I dont trust anyone for shit. |

i think its funny that lots of people say the northside and castledowns are rough, i grew up here my whole life and i have no fear of getting robbed, held up, anything.
In the whole time i've been living here we've had stuff stolen twice, nothing huge. a bike and a car stereo. not like whyte ave where they broke into my car midday.
i still lock stuff, just cuz its silly not to, but i'm not worried. |

It really depends where on the northside though. I grew up in Clairview and its definetly nowhere near as scary as the area around Stadium, Colliseum, Beverly. But still not locking your doors seems pretty foreign to me, even in the safest neighbourhood. When I come into my home, I like to know im the only one who has that access. |

Heh.. there are times, I'll get in my car, back out of the drive way, start to roll forward, pull back into the drive way and double check that I did lock it... heh |

I'm almost OCD when it comes to locking up absolutely everything that has a lock on it & some things without. Houses, cars, bikes, computers, lockers, daughters, wives, toolboxes, car doors, garages. It seems like an unneccesary risk to take for the 0.3 of a second it takes.

I do out of habit but I forget once in a while. I live in a very safe area of town, B&E's do happen but the guy across the streets not going to steal my stuff, he has way better shit than me. I've left my garage door open plenty of times, never had anything missing.
Stupid spoiled drunk teenaged pranks yes, theft, no. |

You live on the nice side of 167th though glen.
Im talking Richards pub area in castledowns.
I had my stereo stolen 3 times in a year, we had a group of people kick in all the glass in our apartment building and fire off some shots in the hallway.
And seen some of the most horrific domestic disturbances I think I'll ever experience.. haha. Made for good entertainment. |

my friend lived right across from richards pub. their biggest issue was drunks pissing on their lawn and leaving empty beer bottles, lol.
but i know what your saying, and i agree its not as nice as my area. |
