FMIC - Whats involved. - Click HERE for Original Thread

Just wondering what kind of modification is involved when installing a front mount intercooler on a 240sx with a SR20DET engine. Some of the S13 FMIC kits require you to cut away some bumper support. Is there anyway to avoid this? Will I have a problem installing a FMIC if my car has air conditioning? What kind of intercooler would be best suited to my application as I don't want to sacrifice bumper supports or air conditioning?

There is a very good chance you will have to cut the bumper a wee bit, Ask SRBURG13 about his cooling problems :)

Air will be restricted to your rad when you put that thing in.

Your AC should be fine, as the FMIC mounts outside of the engine bay.

Stick with the Apex-i for an IC.

I have it, Aaron has it, highly efficient, looks damn cool, and cores are reasonable prices.

For one, you should try doing some research on a place where there are many people that have already done the installation. They will easily give you the answers you will be needing, and will tell you what kits fit perfectly or not. Depending on the size of the intercooler core, there may be some cutting needed to the rad support, or rebar support (whichever those two braces are called).

Seriously man, you need to research on a forum like NICO or something like that, and ask the dudes that have been doing this for years, or have done 3 or 4 swaps already themselves. Some kits fit, some don't. Mine did just fine. I have the Apexi Silvia core, and just squeezed under the braces. But there was holes needing to be cut for the pipes to get through to the front of the car. The only way to avoid cutting anything is to buy the proper kit, unless you have a mandrel bender in your garage. Expect to dish like $1200+ for a proper kit.
