Hey guys,
I have an 00 Maxima SE 5 spd 200 KM... It is currently for sale
The car makes a loud screaching nosie when idling, but when I push the clutch in, it stops... thus indicating the thrust bearing needs replacing.
I had a new clutch and thrust bearing replaced, and had the flywheel re-surfaced but all to no avail --- The noise is still there, same as before when I push the clutch in in stops immediately.
I then went with a heavier weight gear oil as a quick fix.
I called all Nissan dealerships, every mechanic I know, but no one has any solutions. I can't imagine it being internal within the tranny as the car is not in gear, nor moving...
I am open to any suggestions as I need to sell this car -- it is in mint condition, and this is the only obstacle limiting the sale.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

| a fucked thrust bearing would make noise when the clutch pedal is pressed to the floor... not the other way around...??? |

your imput shaft bearing is worn. you will need to rip it apart and rebuild to fix the noise or get a new tranny.
this is how it works when u depress the clutch pedal your release bearing which is connected to the clutch starts to spin and the imput shaft into the tranny stops(neutral) and then when u take your foot off the clutch the release bearing stops and the imput shaft and clutch are all engauged spinning freely causing your main tranny bearing(s) to make a noticable noise when its worn out.
clutch dumps will wear that bearing out usually btw;)
eventually the bearing will be to worn and your tranny will start to fuck up and get stuck in gear and shit. |

| If heavier gear oil made it stop, well it's obvious it's internal. |

Hey guys I appreciate all the input --
Just to clarify --- the heavier gear oil did not make a difference. I will most likely have my Tranny rebuilt -- It is costing me money to insure and advertise the car while it is for sale.
Would anyone know of someone willing to negotiate on price if they were to rebuild the Tranny themselves???
See below car info if interested: It is listed on kijiji if you want to see some pice.
Price: $8,300.00
REDUCED $2,700 OFF Original Asking Price !!!
