Would buying a second MR2 worth it (as parts car) - Click HERE for Original Thread

ND4SPD
Guys,

Need some opinion here...Would it be best of buying a second MR2 (as parts car) or just save the $$$ to restore my current MR2?

The condition of the "PARTS" MR2 is
BAD SIDE
1. The motor spins but has no firing...so Engine won't run (Is this an easy fix?)
2. Lot of rust on both rear wells (REALLY BAD)
3. Rust on the sunroof
4. High kms (350,000+)

GOOD SIDE
1. All electricals works
2. Seats are good
3. Interior almost complete

OR I could put a new engine (silver or blacktop) to it and bpdy repair the rust...then I would have 2 MR2's

Need your feedback guys... Thanks

unless your parts car MR2 is damn cheap....I'd say just get the parts individually and fix up your current deuce

Reflux is right,

Buying a second car doesn't make sense if the price is too high. If the second car has a good engine, transmission, and ECU, then maybe, again that depends. Usually the body is in wretched shape in donor cars, so don't expect any body parts from the car.

Is your car in a closed-in area, like a garage? Usually you are able to smell the gas pumping into the engine, if your fuel pump (and Fuses) is upto snuff, that means it is on the ignition side. Hope this is a start. Obviously it is hard to investigate over the forums page.

When I bought my MR2, it was in the same situation: the motor spins but wouldn't start. It ended up being the fuel pump. I already had a spare fuel pump in my parts car, so all it took was a lot of work to swap the pump out.

If the motor doesn't run, and it has so much rust on it (and 350k kms), I would say the car is worth $500 tops for parts.........
