With many of you posting in the how many hours do you sleep poll/thread.
This ABC video has some insight even sponsored by cell phone companies for the evidence.
I use my cell phone as an alarm clock and it sits next to my bed literally 2 feet from my head.
Never thought it was a problem but my sleep hasn't been getting any better.
2-3 yards away at night for charging is the recommended.
Looks like its goin across the room!

Cell Phones and Brain Cells

It's enough to drive you crazy. You can't see the signals from a cell phone, you can't feel them, and for 20 years now there have been all sorts of lingering fears that they're doing you harm.
The latest finding: a small study suggesting that cell phone calls before bedtime somehow interfere with sleep. The work was done in Sweden and the U.S., published online in a small forum--and is getting all sorts of play in Britain (look HERE and HERE), Asia (look HERE) and Australia (HERE).
“The study indicates that during laboratory exposure to 884 MHz wireless signals, components of sleep, believed to be important for recovery from daily wear and tear, are adversely affected,” the researchers wrote.
But it turns out that "small" is, in this case, very small and not very reliable. There were 71 volunteers who were exposed in a lab to three hours of the kind of radiation that comes from some cell phones (do you make a three-hour call before bed?). After that, they lost an average of eight minutes of REM sleep -- but the standard deviation (essentially the level of uncertainty) was 28 minutes. I've asked our medical unit about it, and they say the study is inconclusive.
The study got funding from the Mobile Manufacturers Forum, an industry group based in Brussels that has an obvious interest in selling phones (though presumably an interest as well in not getting sued). They're also quoted as saying the study was inconclusive.
Here's something the World Health Organization posted in 2004: "To date, no adverse health effects from low level, long-term exposure to radiofrequency or power frequency fields have been confirmed, but scientists are actively continuing to research this area." The rest is HERE.
Still, the story is getting around--understandably, perhaps, because cell phones have become so ubiquitous (in the U.S., population 300 million, there are more than 240 million handsets--and we rank lower, per capita, than many other countries).
So on we go. One medical consequence of cell phone use is clear: worrying about them can make you nuts.

So....this article is saying that the study didn't find anything conclusive...therefore.....having trouble getting to sleep has nothing to do with your phone....

It is lifestyle too, totally has more to do with that then just a phone.
inconsistent sleep times, look how late my post is and I am up still.!
I have asthma, I work in a bodyshop. Stress and or eating too late before bed, playing hockey till 9pm and then trying to go to bed! Some things definitely play a factor in it.
The test is inconclusive though because it was done on a small number of people.
1 in a million could be an axe murder or rapist, could you do testing that wide to find them all.
Anyone know what brainwave frequencies are at while your in your deep sleep and figure out if that is affected by the signals that your phone sends out every few minutes to show where it is on the network.
There is plenty to think about on this one.! |

When you sleep your brain is in a state of alpha (deep sleep, 2-3Hz) or theta (light sleep, 4-8Hz) waves.
GSM cell networks operate in the 900 or 1800Mhz bands, while CDMA cell networks operate in the 800Mhz band. |

I'm up. Cell was across the room , im getting an extra hour of work by being up this early, instead of setting the alarm every "five more minutes" I was up at the first chime!
Either Placebo effect or I just slept well.!

Some nights I go to bed at 12:00 and dont fall asleep till 6am.
Just toss and turn and get angry.
Thats troubled sleeping.
If anyone has any solutions other than moving my cell phone out of the bedroom, I'd love to hear it. |

I dunno, im off work now, not too tired, more exhausted from working my ass off.
Hey StiPWR check Webmd for Insomnia they have alot of different categories.
Without hitting that deep sleep period of rest you can't revitalize yourself, yeah knuckle children help in the short term but the deep sleep is the good one. If you can clearly remember your dreams you know you got a decent sleep.
Don't eat before bed, give it like 2 hours, full stomach works harder then a half empty one. ( or eat smaller portions more frequently).
Stress, thats a big one. Its been a big one for me, i have also read that a big event in someones life, negative or positive can cause insomnia.
(There are reasons I left California and that is a big stress in my life and it all happened at once)
Long story with that one!
Check yahoo health or Webmd for Insomnia and check what they say for helping the sleeping habits.
Maybe even drinking some whiskey before bed too! |
