| Can anyone give me a quick list of local cellular service providers that utilize SIM cards? I'm looking at buying a pretty nice phone, but it needs to work around the world. Thanks in adavance! |

^^^^ what does that mean, cause I have a friend who manages a cell store that carries Fido, and I dont think they do unlocked phones at all anymore or give out the unlock codes. Not saying you cant used an unlocked phone on their network(been using my iphone since it came out) , what I am wondering is if you think their phones come out of the box unlocked

| ^ Yup, he's right. Fido and Rogers and so on sell locked phones I believe. What I usually do is just buy an unlocked phone online and stick my sim in there and then im good to go. |

| you'd have a better chance of having a phone that works around the world if you buy an over seas phone. ordering from japan or europe is the way to go, but like the other guys here have said, just make sure its unlocked. europe and japan have some pretty unique phones that you can pop your sim card into, makes them one of a kind if you live in canada. guarantee you probably will not see someone over here with the same phone. if you do, that sucks :mad: |

Rogers & Fido are the only GSM carriers in Canada.
www.omegacell.com is a great place to start if you want to view leading edge, unlocked GSM phones (they are local too).
If you go, speak with Chris.
And Quad band is the only way to go. |

The reason you need quadband: Different countries will run on different bands. (850, 900, 1800, 1900) So in order to make sure your phone can work everywhere, you need the quad band.
Omega cell is one of the main places you can get a phone unlocked.
Rogers and Fido sell phones that are locked, unless you buy from omega cell, who sells fido packages as well.
If you get a locked phone, it will cost around $40 to unlock the phone here... but depending on where you're going it will be cheaper in another country.. almost guaranteed.
