Another cold related issue (brakes) - Click HERE for Original Thread

3gec
Has anyone else had problems with their brakes during the cold weather. I used my brakes after driving my car for a while yesterday and the brakes just became stiff and would not stop. However after I pressed a few more times it worked again. I thought it was all in my head cause I was going really slow at the time but I just happened to me again. This time coming onto a busy road. Luckily I was only going like 30 and shifting from 2nd to 1st helped me stop the car.

Anyone else having this type of problem?

Sounds like your car wants to kill you. Have you seen the movie Christine?

3gec
That is probably true. I haven't seen the movie though. I am going to assume something about her car wanting to kill her?

my brakes were good but my clutch pedal was hard and slow to move, its just so damn cold all the fluids dont flow so good.

3gec
My my clutch as well is slow to move and very stiff.

it's a rare issue, but they do tend to lock up in cold weather...

THUD
Hot brake's lot's of snow makes ice and plugs shit up and at -30 yup iratic brakes happen, Does the same thing everytime I get on the back roads out here and punch the drifts no biggie tho jsut drive and brake a bit.

ya i usually just do a couple laps around my block in the mornings after i let my car warm up for awhile just break hard and get it all out of the way before i wander off down 28A to school

It's only a 2 minutes drive from work to home for me. So I didn't want to go anywhere other than home just incase they didn't work on a busier road. Now that I know this I will get them warmed a bit before driving anywhere. I park in a garage at night so they are fine in the morning. It only happened the past couple days after work.

Thanks for the tips guys.

mine always ice up when im parked and then in the morning I gotta drop the clutch and break the ice thats freezing my rotors to my brakes, or something of that sort.

A brake fluid flush will probably solve your problem.

My clutch is slowass esp for the first 10min or so. I havnt had a problem with my breaks ever in winter though .... if its bad maby you should get it checked out :dunno:

seems to be common with rotors on the rear end i guess :dunno: s2k has done it a couple times as well..

My winter car does this aswell. Brakes are stiff and not responsive until it warms up. Car doesn't run properly without oil temperature, oil pressure and water temperature being up anyways.

Happens to my Avalon as well when it is really, really cold(ie -30 and below when the car has sat for 10-12 hrs). After applying the brakes a few times the issues is clear. :D

I was driving down the highway at -40 without windchill and same thing happened to my brakes.

Also some moisture in my gas started to freeze and I started to sputter a little bit.

When I arrived at home I had to leave my vehicle in the garage so that it could warm up and drive normally.

ive been pouring in the gas line anti freeze into my tank every time i fill up. its too easy to crack gas lines and shit when its -30.
