Problem with 07 Pontiac torrent... - Click HERE for Original Thread

mcmanus7
So my parents chose the best week to goto mexico.... (they are back this weekend)... anyways my dad has a 07 pontiac torrent that we are trying to move off our drive way.... however it will not start at all (waiting on a tow truck)..... the key is stuck in the ignition and finally the vehicle will not allow us to put the truck into neutral so we could push it anywhere...... so does anyone have any tips on how to get the key out or how to put the vehicle into nuetral??? I have tried hitting the breaks while key is turned to on and trying to shift down to nuetral but the shifter will not budge (automatic).... the key will move to acc and on but not straight back to release... also the steering wheel will not lock....

There should be a shiftlock that can allow you to move it out of park. FIND OUT!

not every car has this. my old 3 series never had it, you had to have the key in the on position to get the thing to unlock

newaccorddriver
have you tried pushing the key inwards as your trying to put it into release?

lowryder99
turn the steering wheel left to right as you try and pull the key out.

mcmanus7
yes I have tried to push inwards... my old beater used to do get stuck like that.... the key is not like frozen i nthe ignition you can wiggle it a tiny bit.... right now going through the owners manual but the hting doesn't have a freaken index or table of contents....

All the owners manual says is that the key is locked when the shifter is not in park..... to move the sifter from park to neutral apply the brakes and shift down...... however that is not working...

I have tried cranking the steering wheel while trying to remove the key.. no dice

I would assume a brand new car would. Guess I was wrong.

what exactly is a shiftlock?? I called the dealership and they once again had no idea what Iwas talking about...

I work at a pontiac dealer and a few of our vehicles do this when there is not charge left in the battery. If you try to boost it the key will release and you will be able to put the torrent into neutral.

ya the battery seems to be completely toast.. not getting any lights or anything
