Someone in my family recently bought an SUV from Arizona and I was wondering if there is any way to get the state tax back? I have tried to search on google but haven't found much. If anyone has experience with getting the money back or could tell me where to look, I would appreciate it.
Thanks for any replies |

Why did they even pay the tax if they are Canadian residents? Just show them proof of citizenship and you are exempt.

Crazyrx7, where can one confirm/why do you say this?
Not all states give rebates as far as I understand, and I think AZ is one of them. Further, again, I may be wrong, but I think often when rebates are available, you need to apply after paying (rebate) not always just not pay. |

| Well I asked and she said she had to pay the state tax initially or Lexus wouldn't sell to her as a Canadian. Has anyone else bought new from Arizona? |

I have bought cars out of province (2 of them) and 1 out of country and never once have I had to pay the local taxes. I just had to show proof of Canadian/Provincal residency.

I have only bought out of province (BC) and I was told if I purchased registration there I would have to pay the BC sales tax but I could apply in alberta to get it back. The lady told me the best way to do it is to just get temporary registration and then I would have to pay in BC.
As for out of country I'm sure you can get it back....talk to an accountant I bet they could tell you. |

| Maybe that was just Lexus' way of saying "get bent"? |

Good luck trying to get your money back. You can from BC as there's a process.
But there's no way to get state tax back, because there is no place to apply (you're not supposed to pay, so why would they bother?)
Lexus screwed you intentionally. Plain and simple. |
