renwewing license help! - Click HERE for Original Thread

say that your license has been expired (still old version of license)
for about 4 years.

i know that you are not valid to drive without applying for a
new license and have a in term temporary license slip for 30days. i know it takes 2 weeks to arrive.
when you apply do you have to take another
driving road test/written test?

or is it just straight forward apply
Fees remain at current levels:

* Driver’s licence / $55 (for a five-year licence)
* ID cards / $30 (for five years)
* Replacement driver’s licence / $13

All transactions involve a $7 registry agent service fee.

and receive in mail?

thanks for the help.

If it has been more then 3 years since expired you will have to take the written and road test again

for sure?

Speaking of which.. Still on topic...

I have a friend moving here from BC, she did live here a few years ago, but that was the last time she had a license.. I guess ICBC wanted to much for insurance and she sold her car and let her license go... Anyway, she asked me if she would have to be a graduated driver. She also asked if her 29 year old daughter whom has never been licensed would have to go through the graduated licensing as well... I couldn't answer her..

I have no idea how the system works.. :dunno:

*EDIT*

Shouldn't this be in "Ask your local law enforcement"?

As a far as i know, if she produces evidence that she has more than i think 2 years of driving experience she doesnt have to go thru GDL. I dont know however if there is a problem if she hasnt been licensed for a number of years like the OP's situation.
About her daughter, since she never had a licence she will have to do the GDL regardless of age. It was going to be the same case with me until i showed them a notarized translation of my Egyptian license and they declared i was non-GDL on my class-7.

Any new (first time) driver will be a GDL in Alberta.

On topic but question as well when i got here i still had an N from B.C however i had it for 3 years and never updated it when i got my license here they gave me a GDL?
So i had a Learners for 1 year a new drivers for 3 years.. You can get your full license after 2 years with your N in B.C? why the hell did i get a GDL? Should i look into this and apply for my full license?:S Is there another road test for that?

That would of course be if you renew every five years...the previous post relates to if you've let it lapse for more than three years between expiry and renewal. :rolleyes:

Yeah, you should look into it. And there is an "advanced" road test you have to take to get rid of GDL. I don't see why you got GDL in the first place :dunno:
