So, I'm getting some conflicting answers from people I know about what the laws for tint are here. Does anyone know the definitive answers? I tried a search but only came up with one thread about a guy who got a bunch of tickets and one of them was for tint.
All I know is that there are different rules for the front and back windows. For now, I'm just assuming that no tint at all is allowed on the front windows since I'm looking to get my Accord's rear ones done.
As a corollary, does anyone know of a reputable tint shop in Edmonton? |

No film is permitted on the driver’s compartment, right and left. Any film may be installed on the side windows behind the driver. Any film may be applied to the rear window, provided the vehicle has 2 exterior rear view mirrors.

since it's a current topic anyway...and at risk of soundling like a douchbag... what if you were to get the windows 'smoked' so that they are tinted...but without the film.
I wouldn't do it to my car anyways....because well....its a Focus. That and I think it would look shitty...but its a question I've wondered about. |

I believe smoked windows are only legal if the car shipped from the factory with them.
But I'm not 100% sure on that one.
We'll have to wait for BLOCKER. |

The thread is about tint... not eyebrows... however since the question was ask...
depending on the size and "transulent" qualities they may or may not be.
The act reads...
Window glazing
69(1) A person shall not install, replace or cover the window glazing in a windshield or in a left or right side window of a motor vehicle that is beside or forward of the driver with a transparent, translucent or opaque material.
(2) A person shall not install, replace or cover the rear window glazing in a motor vehicle with a transparent, translucent or opaque material unless the motor vehicle has outside rear view mirrors on both the left and right that comply with section 72(2).
(3) A person shall not install, replace or cover the window glazing in a motor vehicle with a material that reflects the headlamps of approaching vehicles into the eyes of the driver of another vehicle.
(4) A person shall not install, replace or cover the window glazing in a motor vehicle with a material that reflects sunlight into the eyes of the driver of another vehicle.
(5) A person may replace the window glazing installed by the manufacturer of a motor vehicle with the same type of glazing.
(6) A person may apply clear untinted frost shields to a window of a motor vehicle only if they do not impair the view through the window by discolouring, scratching or damaging the glazing.
(7) A person may apply stickers to the window of a motor vehicle only if they do not limit the driver’s field of vision or otherwise impair the safe operation of the motor vehicle.
********
I hope your can see the light through your "eyebrows" next time you pull up a little close at the intersection.
I may be a little out of the loop but I alway thought "eyebrows" were on the headlights.
In this thread I can only assume you are talking about the tint at the top of the front windshield. |

I believe they are... And being dicks about it too.
Although, I find that the area above my rearview mirror is pretty much useless anyways. |

Even though the act is not specific on this, one would assume that clause 5 overrides clause 1, otherwise on the face of clause 1 it appears that simply replacing the front windshield with another OEM piece (transparent material) would be illegal (which for obvious reasons would be absurd). |

If it was installed at the factory, It is legal, and may be replaced with the same material as installed by the factory... In other words...
If you buy a car with a clear windsheild (brand new, from the factory) you can not add tinting... If you buy a car with a tinted windshield (brand new, from the factory), if that tint needs to be replace for what ever reason, it may be. (with the same material as used by the OEM) |

I dont see how a person would think Clause 5 would 'override' Clause 1 when Clause 5 states: Installed by the manufacturer of a motor vehicle with the same type of glazing.
While in my opinion, Clause 1 is about someone other than the manufacturer of the motor vehicle. |
