Just curious if anyone has experience working for any of these shipping companies? What are you thoughts about them? To be specific, I'm interested in the courier side.
I know some (most?) of these companies also offer something like a $1,000 referral bonus, so maybe we can help each other out. |

UPS are full of hacks that don't know anything about shipping methods let alone their own company. I called the shipping depot on many occassions and the employees were about as smart as a chimp with downsyndrome. Not to mention they charge $20-60 on customs for items that are $20.
DHL is good stuff. |

I agree, for the most part ups is reatarded I used to work for a major air shipping company and we would deliver stuff for ups all the time and we would send it to their sorting depot and it was mostly peo0ple who did not speak english or anything and we always had a huge hassle.
DHL was always good the people were super nice and not retarded alot of their shipping has contract drivers too using their own trucks(to and from the airport). |

| Hey there, I am actually employed by UPS at the moment. No, I do not have down syndrome. I believe we have a referral bonus of 500 dollars but it's not the optimal place to be working at though. |

| I worked at DHL's warehouse briefly, no way in HELL I would work there again. Almost everyone there is a frigging immigrant that can't speak english and is lazy as hell, horrible place to work. The way they work it, if you work fast, you get to go help the lazy asses who have the same amount of work as you, but take a LOT longer to do it. Not to mention, $14.50 to start out warehouse, pretty bad starting wage right now. I like Purolator a lot, whenever I get stuff shipped by them it's really fast and the people there can always speak english. I will never ship anything UPS again though, having a huge hassle with shipping some items right now, they are frigging idiots  |

Last time I paid 150$ customs on a 130$ package. I want to buy something from the states and they offer free shipping to Canada only UPS. I told them I would rather pay to ship with USPS, they told me they cant ship with anything but UPS.
Looks like I wont be spending 2k on audio equipment from there....
UPS just RAPES on customs and brokerage, it should not even be legal, and Ironically there is a lawsuit going on right now. |

Sorry dude but i call bs. I've used UPS numerous times and NEVER have they been nice and let fees slip. They hit you everytime.
Your either using there overnight options with include the brokerage. Or shipping within Canada. Or your item value is below $20 (but even then) |

UPS is a fucking joke. I buy a lot of stuff for my business and have it shipped from the states. I don't mind paying the gst and duty but the brokerage UPS charges is retarded.
UPS is also the only company that won't give me their GST number so I can get my GST back come tax time. I wouldn't be surprised if they are pocketing a lot of what they claim are government charges. |

Anybody have an opinion on what it's like to work for any of these companies? :dunno:
Obviously UPS can bite me, I've had the same 'brokerage fee' problems and wouldn't want to work for a company like that. It basically amounts to extortion IMO.
That means most of you are also probably familiar with RMS  |

I ordered a chin spoiler and the company even wrote down that the item was a GIFT with a $20 value. The assholes at UPS decided to open my package and asses a value of $500 for it even though it CLEARLY stated on the import papers that it was a GIFT with a LOW value to avoid taxes and brokerage fees. This means instead of paying $0 customs/brokerage by following the EXACT rules to avoid this, they just open your package and make you pay $250 for absolutely nothing if they think its valuable or suspecious.
They will do anything it takes to make money off their bullshit fee's even if it means opening every package that goes through their depots.
During Christmas time UPS Edmonton said they were going to deliver all packages meant for Christmas AFTER Christmas because they didn't have enough drivers/workers. I had to wait an extra 3 weeks for my gauges i ordered from the US to come in and they didn't refund shipping or even offer an apology.
If you want to see their new rates check out this bullshit chart. The best fee is if you want to pay cash to the driver C.O.D. they make you pay $5. This basically means if you want to pay in advance for the customs and brokerage fee's it costs you $5.
UPS is garbage customs fees
If its not C.O.D., don't pay your fee's people they can't track all of us down and can't do shit! |

| We don't open packages coming in from the states, and we usually take your word on how much the value is. So far I've never seen an opened package before unless it accidently ripped open or something. |

Sorry but but you obviouslly work in Edmonton. Of course YOU don't open packages. It's done at customs.
And yes they sure as shit do open them randomly. |
|
|
| shoopuf |
| How can you be so sure they open them randomly, do you work at customs? And I was referring to Rebound's message, "where the assholes at UPS decided to open my package". We don't just open packages for fun, nor do we have the time to. |

How be I be sure? Cause i've been told by customs agents. I've had packages opened. And they currently have one of mine for the past month that there excuse is "It was probably selected for random opening" |

Wtf is with this increase in retards on this forum?
You think they don't open packages at customs.. What is it exaclty you think customs does you fuckin retard. |

I worked for UPS for 2 years some time ago. At the time, the Management was retarded and they were arrogant pricks. They overworked their employees and didn't care about them at all. The wage was decent, not sure what they pay now. Some of the people I worked with were cool. Good thing is that because you are a part of a Union, you won't get fired :) And its a fairly easy job once you get used to the pace but if you end up driving, the stress of the traffic can get to you. Especially if your boss gives you 20 more stops than you can handle in one day and expects you to be done by 5pm. Then you get a shitload of pickups.
If you can handle stress well, it's a good job, but you do get shit on by the customers, why? Because they can''t take it out on the retard at the call center in the US. That really sucks. |

I agree with you, they do do random openings of packages. I believe most of them get opened before they leave the country or when they are stuck at the border. In any case, it sucks and they are pricks about it. |

| Again, I refer to Rebound saying UPS does the opening of packages. The only comment I made in regards to your post was that you are so sure of a procedure just because "you've been told". Could the increase of retards on this forum be due to the lack of comprehending other people's messages, or just selecting reading. Also..what can you really achieve by calling me derogatory terms? Profanity is the linguistic crutch of the inarticulate.. |

I meant to say that customs opens the packages, but the bullshit independant customs brokers all work for UPS anyways so its basically UPS doing it since they make money off the fee's they charge. Its not canada customs as their fee's are nowhere near as fucked as the UPS rates. Also canada customs doesn't tear the shit out of your boxes and send them to you OPENED.
My recent purchase of a chin spoiler pissed me off because it was clearly labeled as a GIFT with a $10 value to avoid customs fees and the assholes at the independant brokerage company working for UPS decided to call and threaten the place i got the spoiler from telling them to state the actual price or they will press charges. They said it looked too "new" and opened it due to the fact that the box was big.
Obviously at this point, the company told them the actual value of the item because they were forcing them to by the threat of reporting them, so i end up getting dinged for $250! Even if i bought that spoiler here and paid tax it wouldnt be anywhere close to that.
How the fuck do i pay $250 tax/customs on a $200 spoiler? |

LOL @ RMS. Every week I have a nasty voicemail from them. Only problem is that I used my business name on the invoice and it was shipped to my old address so they don't know where to send the bill to and who to address it to. |
